Convincing companies to make body kits (And other parts)

Postby vuuuuu » Tue Jul 24, 2007 7:51 am

Hi all, I am emailing companies to see if they are willing to make us a body kit or a lip kit. I don't know if this will get us anywhere, I don't know how much they'll charge us or anything, but I feel like we should at least try to make an effort to get something made for us.

So far I've emailed:

  • A Custom body kit creator in PA
  • Wing West/ViS
  • Ground Dynamics
  • Erebuni Corp.
    • Erebuni: We are not taking on any more projects. We are liquidating our current stock only.
    • Me: Oh, I see. Thanks for the reply. You wouldn't happen to know any companies that would be able to do this, would you?
    • Erebuni:Sorry, none that I know of.
  • Tokico/Hitachi (For struts)
    • Tokico: Sir,
Thank you for your inquiry, however TOKICO does not currently make an application for your vehicle. We will file your request for future development consideration.

      Thank you,

      Dan Sugra
      TOKICO/ Hitachi Hi-Performance
      Wholesale Sales
  • TOYOTA!! (To get them to package the lip kit)
    • Toyota: Thank you for contacting Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc.

We apologize; we do not market a Ground Effects Kit for the Solara SLE V6 and have no information or referrals on a company that may.
    • Me: I am aware that you do not market a ground effects kit for the Solara. You
do, however, offer a "Sports Package" that only comes with the SE-Sport
model Toyota Solaras. Being a customer that paid more money for the top
model SLE, I was disappointed that after 3 years of having been released,
you still do not offer the SE-Sport lip kit as an available package to buy
separately. Do you have plans on releasing this? If not, what would it take
to sell it as a package? What would it take to "market" it?

      Vu
    • Toyota: Thank you for contacting Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc.

We apologize. We currently have no current plans of introducing the parts you are requesting.

The questions you are asking are not easy to answer. Toyota has a process called Kaizen which means continuous improvement. This process is used to make a better product. However, in order to make any changes, our corporation has to consider all aspects of the situation. Sometimes this is a lengthy procedure.

We make every effort to manufacture a quality product by researching, testing, and constantly monitoring performance. Consumer opinion and perception also play an active role in our ongoing efforts to lead the automobile industry in quality, innovation, styling, and reliability.

It is through communications such as yours that we become aware of the reactions and expectations of our customers.

Your email has been documented at our National Headquarters under file #200707260872. If we can be of further assistance, please feel free to contact us.

  • KYB (For struts)
      KYB: Vu,
We only offer the rear struts we do not offer any struts for the front
of your vehicle, I listed the part numbers below.

      GR-s
      Right rear 334388
      Left rear 334389

      Thank you,
      Dan
      KYB America LLC

    • Me: Hi Dan,

Thank you for the part numbers. Do you have any plans for manufacturing
front struts for the car? Also, if I were to get lowering springs, would it
do me any good to just get the rear struts and use stock front struts? I'm
unsure of this combination. Thanks again,

      Vu

    • KYB: Vu,
That vehicle is pretty popular so I'm sure we will look into it but I'm not sure
if we will offer anything for it or not but the combo between us in the rear and
the front OE is fine and the lowest you would be able to lower our struts is
      1.5".

      Thank you,
      Dan
      KYB America LLC
  • GREDDY (For.. anything: lip kits, exhaust, etc)
(List will continue to be updated)

I will let you know what their response is, but I've referred them to solaraguy.com to see that there is a community out there that's willing to buy kits if they're available.

I don't know what you think. If you like this idea, help me out and email as many companies as you can - and let me know when/if you do. Thanks..

Vu

Dont waste your time. Companies will drop out due to models being discontinued and toyota is killing the solara. It cost ALLOT of money to start up a kit and if theres only like 100 buyer then theres no point in doing it.

its great to see you want to do this for us gen2 and 2.5 guys but the support for us just isnt there honestly. most of us dont want anything too aggressive looking either. more of a subtle clean look. but keep us posted with your updates.

I wouldn't want an aggressive kit either. I'm a big fan of lip kits as my previous Honda Prelude had a normal lip kit, and that's all I ever needed/wanted. Plus, no one would ever want an aggressive kit on a luxory/classy car.

Anyway, who knows if this proves to be even worth it. I'm just giving it a shot.

Do it !! Don't bother by negative comments. Long term member are just frustrated with the low aftermarket backup and it is completely normal !! Especially with Gen 2 !!!!! I'm myself pretty upset with the low TRD aftermarket product...compare to Matrix / Corolla and other Toyota Model. Use your young innocent member blood to push it a bit further...never know.

A pic of my old prelude for kicks.

Anyway, thanks for the words. I've been on this board since I got the car in 2004, but got married and bought a house. Now I have extra money to mod the car and it's even more frustrating that after 3 years there's still not much at all out there.[/img]

I sold it so that I could get a more luxorious and comfortable car.... which ended up being the Solara. I miss the car so much, but it was time to move on.

it doesn't matter, companies still makes kits for 240sx, old accord or civic. it just matter that if companies feel about the potential markets.

That was the same with the Prelude too. Honda discontinued it, but they still make parts out the wazoo for them. Then again, it was a Honda.. meaning everyone was buying parts for them.

This isn't going to be an easy fight, I know. I just feel that trying gives a better percentage of succeeding than not trying.

Welp, one down... Erebuni apparently is either going out of business or doing something huge. They said they can't.
