Front Passenger Clunk - ONE LAST QUESTION

Front Passenger Clunk - ONE LAST QUESTION

Postby hari-bhari » Sun Jul 01, 2007 9:35 pm

Just got my eibach/tokico installed and noticed that i've got a slight clunk sound coming from the front passenger side. It happens when going over bumps or entering my driveway. If I go to the front bumper and push down, i can also hear the clunk but i can't tell where it is from. The driver's side does not do this, nor does the rear. Any ideas?

Spring is not seated correctly on the strut/mount.

is that definitive? what would a bad strut mount or not properly tightened nuts sound like?

also, could an incorrectly seated spring be why my front is sitting a little bit higher than i expected? it seems higher than the rear, and higher than another tokico/eibach combo ive seen (smoothro). how long does it take for the fronts to settle?

i went back to butler and they said they tightened everything down but the clunk is still there and seems a bit louder. they didnt reseat the spring even tho i asked them to.

my question is this, and sorry if its stupid. is the strut mount part of the strut or where the strut mounts into the car? because i read a lot about the passenger side strut mount clanking with stock suspension, but im not sure if changing my suspension would have cancelled out that problem. basically, if it is likely that my clunking is coming from something that is not associated with an installation error, theres not much i can go back to them for. i dont really feel like buying a new strut mount and paying to get it installed. but if its something like what was stated above about the spring not being seated correctly and it is their error, then i need to go get it fixed. also i read something about cutting the bump stop to fix this problem. what exactly is that? my driver's side is not making any noise, and i doubt they would have done something differently between the two in terms of cutting the stops.

Mine made a clunk to until i changed it out for the third time. What Milt said is correct.. They need to uncompress the spring and take it all apart and put it back together. This will fix the problem

im going tomorrow afternoon to have the setup looked at. just out of curiosity, were they supposed to do anything special to the springs before installing? i remember reading something about cutting bumpstops, what is that? i feel like my front fender gap is about 1 finger larger than my rear, and im not sure if this is an installation issue...

If you had TRD struts and got the clunking noise, then that's a whole other story.

Eibach/Teins should always be healthy. Must be an install problem.
