gas mileage??

How do you get gas for so cheap? We live like 10 miles apart and i pay 1.49 hmm?

it probably has something to do with the fact that the post is eight months old!

ya..i gave up completely on even recording my gas mileage. All I know is that it's time to do an embarrassing "5 regular please" when the light has been on for a couple of days and the car is putting.

I swear, i get more outta 5bucks than I do outta 20. 5 will get the needle past 1/4tank..but 20 will hardly get it to 3/4 hummm..fishy

OK, after 2 weeks of observing..that's what i have

1 st week 500 miles
2nd week 487 miles

I get gas when the meter is in the middle, which is around 245 and i looked at the gas pump it reads at least 10gals to fill up from half to full. It's so weird, arent we have 18.5 gal? ain it suppose to be 9 something when the meter is in the middle?

I'm going to be driving up to New Hampshire w/ a few friends on the 27th...there shouldn't be any traffic and it should be all hgwy except like a whole 4-5 miles.

I'm gonna fill up on the way..reset the od...fill up on the way home..then divide the gallons by how many miles i went.

I'm gonna find out once and for all if my car sucks that bad!

500 miles out of a v6??! how is that even possible man, that's like 27 mpg on the dot. do you go 55 mph everywhere, all highway?? and are you sure you calculated it right. the way i did mine was let it go til the gas light comes on, see how many gallons the tank will hold until its full (usually about 16) and then divide my odometer reading by that many gallons. then set it back to zero and do it all over again for the next fillup. for example, say i fillup completely, zero the tripometer, drive 450 miles, then the gas light comes on, i go to fill up, and the tank takes 16 gallons this time, so i divide 450 by 16 to get my mpg for the past fillup. does that sound like the right way to do it?

oh sorry, one more comment, the first half (according to the meter) takes me almost 250 miles, and the last half takes me me about 150-175, so if you are just going to the halfway point and doubling, then you're over-estimating. theres a good article on howstuffworks.com : http://auto.howstuffworks.com/fuel-gauge.htm

I've gone 460 on a tank (topped off at 17 gal) with 50/50 city/hwy driving, so it's not unheard of. That was after the supercharger was installed too.

Yah, no kidding ..500...only have the greddy and the Kn drop in.
I drove on freeway 80%. I floored it a lot too... =)

damn is something wrong with my car then, i have an I4 and still dont get anywhere near 500, and usually take it to about 3000 rpm....

The best way to calculate your mpg (in my opinion) is by using a cross multiplication table. For example, if you drove 300 miles and went to get gas, it filled up 14 gallons, then calcuate what you would have gotten with the full tank.

Regarding the mileage you guys are getting, it seems a little extreme...I have a v6 with just the RMM intake and i get no where near what you guys are getting. At the most, i'll get a little bit over 400 miles per tank, but on average it's in the 375-400 range. Though I do have to drive pretty hard and am in NJ traffic a lot, but these are mostly highway miles. Hopefully these numbers are what most owners are getting, if you guys are getting a lot more, then I feel a little bit jipped.

Has anyone ever noticed that the gauge will stay way above full for a few days and then drop real fast while its in the 3/4 to 1/4 range and then you can go another 100 or so miles with the empty light on ??? Am i mising something here... all on a constant route with more or less the same acceleration, and distance at teh same time of day?

Yeah, I noticed that too, but remember gas gauges aren't that precise. My gas gauge floats around a little bit from day to day, or if i'm doing city driving it overcompensates and drops too low, then if i get on the highway it'll raise again. Also it takes forever to come back up as I am getting the tank filled

I would say I get over 500 miles on a tank, but I am 95/5 hwy/city, and I generally keep it under or around 80.

I think your numbers are more the norm than 500 per tank. In order to get 500 out of the V6, I think you have to drive conservatively, and do a lot of freeway driving at a consistent speed. By conservatively, I don't mean driving slowly; I mean not stomping on the accelerator and not screeching to a stop at every light. I'll get 425-450 on the freeway, using about 16.5 - 17 gallons. Normally, if I'm doing a lot of city driving, it's more like 300-350. That's with a supercharger, by the way.
