question: How to get clear head lights?

Postby mazen222 » Thu Jul 19, 2007 5:20 pm

To start off I am really happy to have found this forum! I've been looking for info on solara's for a while now with no luck. This seems to be the perfect spot !

I got my 99 solara 2 months ago and im now ready to start tuning it up.

The first thing i dont like about my car is the hadlights. They are not clear... they look like they're dirty/yellowish...

After some reaserch, i have found out that some peeps say that by sanding them, they would look like new again... Now that is something that interest me allot more than buying new ones for 150$ on ebay.

Can someone send me on the right track for this? If it is possible, how? is there a tutorial for that? Same goes for fog lights

Thanks!

just get em buffed out, if that doesnt work you will probably need to buy new headlights...

dont sand them down.. that will probably just scratch the ass out of them

I learned a trick that was on speed tv... if you get a gritty toothpaste and a rag, you basically just wax your headlights with toothpaste... it works b/c i tried it.

ive actually used this "crystal view" stuff before, and if you follow the directions, your headlights DO become crystal clear again, just like new. i had my doubts at first, thinking 'oh, yeah its just a gimmick' but it really does work if you follow the directions.

i believe they have a video on the site of some guy doing the whole process also, if you're interested.

One of my first cars had really bad pitted headlights. I sanded them down, then put a light coating of clear coat on them. They looked brand new after that.

i just bought a battery powered rotating kit just for this purpose.

I am doing this tomorrow... should i sand them down first? or just wet and wax them with toothpaste?

I will buy a kit tomorrow and return that buffer back :fadein:

blue magic plexiglass cleaner. you will love it. use it on your taillights and fogs too. can even remove light scratches from the plastic over your gauge cluster.

Maybe your situation is more serious. But i just use car polish ( prefer amorall car polish over meguires or mothers) and a little elbow grease. Clears them right up. I do have to do it atleast once a month though.

make sure you re-apply some clear coat or else they will just keep getting worse, faster though.
