Hey everyone, I actually have a simple question. Our Solaras (or is it Solari for plural?) don't have frames around the door windows, is this going to be a problem later on in life? Water leaks and such?

Oh! And I forgot, is it true that I should open and close the door with the window half down (or anywhere but totally down or totally up)? My friend that drives a Firehawk said that (since his car has frameless doors also).

I had a late model Celica '89. It did develop a leakage problem in the summer of '99 (last year I had the car). I imagine my Solara is going to have some trouble in several years also, as the wind already does a pretty good job of getting in at higher speeds. I would guess the seals could be replaced? Also, it is probably worth pointing out that I, here in the Midwest, probably see more temperature changes than you California guys, which is most likely a factor.
Let's just pretend I didn't grow up, or you're going to be terribly disappointed.

No it shouldn't...but it's easy to pick your locks with that style door. It's very easy to pry open the window...and poke a stick or pole to unlock the doors. That's something i'll be glad to not worry about as soon as I sell the car.

That isn't the main reason why. A lot of it has to do with mileage. I'm at 83k right now and my commuting to work now is making me average close to 2000 miles per month. The resale value on the Solara is horrible due to it's Camry roots so I want to sell it before the value gets way below $9k. As for the windows being pried open. There are pry marks in the rubber of my window (B-pillar) showing someone trying to break into my car. I've tried to pry it myself with a screwdriver...and it's quite easy to open up sad to say.

Planned replacement will most likely be a JCE10 in either Millenium Silver Metallic or Graphite Gray Pearl. :D

Where is the B-pillar?
Is it located within 6 inches above the mirror? I have some marks and woren down material in that region on my driver side... should I worry or is it just natural wear and tear?

anyway, why not wait 'till they unveil the gen 2? who knows, you might like it a lot more and you'll be kicking yourself for buying the current one. then again they might just pull a solara on it and make it hideous!

Talking about non framed cars (owning 3 of them currently)..there becomes a significant wind noice as you go in highways in the latter years!
As for flip: I assumed I read somewhere you were looking into a 4runner v8 before? IS300....nice choice....

Would windguards work on Solara's? I don't even know if they make them for our cars, but it would cut down on the wind noise that you hear on highways.
