throttle body coolant bypass

throttle body coolant bypass

i know a thread has been done on this before.....but i tried the search function and reaffirmed my notion that it sucks.

i was planning on doing the coolant bypass on the throttle body, but when i checked my haynes manual, it wasnt very clear which hose i need to unplug from the throttle body and then plug back into the block, and also, which two outlets on the throttle body were the coolant in/out lines.

since i'm at work and without a digital camera, i will describe the three lines i was confused about.

so....

if you start out standing at the driver side headlight, with the intake taken off (for space)....you will see 3 hoses running downwards from the throttle body.

since you're facing the firewall/intake manifold, we'll label the three hoses as 1, 2, and 3; where 1 is the closest to the engine (furthest left), and 3 is closest to the driver side fender (furthest right, or furthest on the driver side).

each of these three hoses all seem to go into the engine block, and the haynes manual says that two are coolant/water hoses, and the other is a crankcase vent hose.

now, i suspected that hose 1 and 3 are the coolant/water lines, with the middle hose being the vent line. but i didnt want to switch stuff around until i posted and got a response from someone who has already done this mod. after all, i dont know what consequenses my engine would face if i focked it up, and i sure as schite dont want to find out.

i know the purpose of the coolant in the TB, but i live in texas, and dont have freezes to worry about.

if anyone has input and PREFFERABLY PICTURES, i would appreciate a post to help me clear things up.

also, many other posts i read on other cars involves buying a double male-end coupler, so that the hoses can be plugged into each other and close the circuit of coolant (so it doesn spill), but from the looks of it, if i switch one of the hoses to plug right back into the block, and then use the other hose to plug the TB back into itself, i should be alright...yes?

please help shed some light on this.

thanks,
