If your air filter needs to be replaced, I would go ahead and get the K&N because you can clean and reuse it. There isn't any noticable performance increase though.

You might want to remove the upper and lower resonators on the intake. It won't cost much and it makes the intake a little louder, if that's your thing.

Practically anything will alter the sound of your intake. I opened up the air filter housing to air blow out the filter, and when I snapped the housing back together, I must have missed the far snap below, because there was an air leak. I only noticed the first I had to mash it. The car sounded different, but it was a good different.
Needless to say, I fixed it right away.

How would I remove the resonators and is there any potential damage in doing so?

The lower intake resonator is easier to do:
-Remove the LF wheel
-Loosen the fasteners on the fender liner and peel it back to reveal a white object located in the LF bumper behind the fog light, it's about the size of a volleyball
-it's held in by 2 bolts, just take it off and forget about it

To remove the upper intake resonator, you will need to replace it with a 5" long 2.75" diameter pipe or tube and an air breather to replace the valve cover vent hose that goes to the resonator.
