Dat's ypipe and Stock headers

Dat's ypipe and Stock headers

Postby Dawgz » Fri Aug 17, 2007 8:04 pm

So as u know, i bought a really fckt up dat's ypipe, which turned out to much to fix and be worth it. So i had a really nice SG member help me out Cisco (facevedo17) who i met up with around my area and sold me his untouched dat's ypipe. I took the ypipe to Applied Force, its a fabrication shop up in boonton which does extremly nice work. I had them fix my ypipe and also sand my header's flange @ 10,000ths of an inch to get rid of the Rust and caked on crap on the headers and the o2 bungs and the egr fittment. Also, this Fab shop does Heliarc welding, the strongest welding u can get. Long story short, here are the pics, they will be installed comming next week and then if i get them installed by wednesday or watever, i can take the car to the dyno this week as well.

SO everything is finally installed and what not, it was a pain getting all this done, alot of stuff didnt align perfectly, these are all the pics i took, they pretty much explain themselvs.

Here are some of the problems we faced...

1) The A/F Sensor on the rear header was fused on the old header, and while taking it off, the thread on the sensor stripped so i need to replace that...($225)

2) The rear Flange was off by 1/4 to 1/2 of an Inch and didnt let us bolt it up. (needed to be fixed by cutting the flange off, and then aligning it and then welding...

3) the front flange had a gap when everything was bolted up, this was also completed along with the second flange so it all worked, the fix for this was sanding the flange down a bit...just a tad bit, now theres no gap.

4) the flexpipe, after the cat was installed had a height issue that didnt allow it to mate with the Mid pipe, fixing the Rear flange and the front one solved this issue.

Glad to hear it pulls nice now and it all finally fit together nicely. Looks like 12.5 inches was jut about the right length for that cat.

^ yea i know meng, but what can ya do.

I feel a major diffrence for sure tho, the pre-cats were just no good.

Can anyone correct me if im wrong, but am i the only one on the boards that has a cali spec car with a Supercharger and converted it to Non-Cali spec headers and wat not? Cause i dont see any threads that mention ANyone with a pre-cat system that is boosted.

I know you went through hell and back to get this done, you should be proud. I can't wait to see the dyno results!

Here are pics of the Pre-cats, one on the Front header and one on the Rear Header's connection on the ypipe itself.

Image

Here is the Rear header, no precat on the actual header, yet its still just a TAD bit diffrent than the non-cali spec header and needed to be swapped out...

Image

The most obvious, the front header with its pre-cat...

Check out the material inside the pre-cat, i bet if u took all that b.s material, squashed it all to one side, u'd have, at max, 1/2 of the air flow of the non-pre cat headers, but i think it might be less!

your dedication (time-wise and financially) is admirable. glad you finally got everything banged out!

what i want to know is what did you do for each of the sensors? are you running an O2 simulator? does the ecu "realize" you dont have precats anymore and throw a code, thinking it is polluting too much?
