How do I install a supercharger?

Postby solara blues » Wed Jun 18, 2003 3:02 pm

Trying to score a s/c and I'm gonna try to put it in myself. I'm concerned at which additional parts I might need in the installation. If anybody has any pointers or advice at installing a trd supercharger, please let me know. Thanks a lot. :drinking:

1-2 week b4 install, put an injector cleaner on ur gas and start using premium.

Get a denso iridium IK-22, it's a good time to get a new set of plugs.
Magnecore wire is also a good upgrade.

As for the install, get a friend to help you.

Well i guess i should reply to this thread, hehe thanks Rizal. About the install it really wasn't that hard, just very time consuming, it took me by myself about 12 hours, but i was taking my time and i kept dropping parts and tools into the engine compartment and had to spend time finding them. The kit comes with everything that you need to do the install with exception to the tools, ie no other gaskets or bolts/screw needed. Make sure you have a breaker bar though, that was a really helpful tool with some of the bolts as they were put on very tight, you might also want to read through the install instructions over and over until you've gotten sick of reading them, also make sure you read the supplemental instructions that come with the dynamic belt tensioner, at first i thought i was missing a couple parts and haulted my install a day until i read in the supplemental that the parts and some of the steps in the original install bood had changed. My biggest problem in the whole install was getting the egr pipe taken out and reinstalling the new one, other than that it wasn't that bad, just take your time, and having assistance from friends would be a great help.

There are also others that are knowledgeable in doing the install, so they may have more to add, Steve aka Str8pyp comes to mind, i think he has done the most SC installs.

with mine, the hardest part was the belt/tensioner. almost took my friend's finger off twice! other than that, no major problems. it took him like 6 hrs and he REALLY took his time.

yeah that was a hard part too til i found the medium sized breaker bar that my brother had in his room, i just put that into the square hole in the side of the belt tensioner and pushed it up so that the tensioner was coiled all the way and the belt went on easily.

or a 3/8 ratchet. just use the bare head. it's suggested in the supplemental part.

advice to solara blues: READ THOSE INSTRUCTIONS AGAIN AND AGAIN. on the first day of installing my s/c i cut my finger on the first step. (removing that black cover over the fuel rail and injectors) so i spent the rest of that day "walking" through the steps. locating all the nuts and bolts that needed to removed.

Hey, guys, thanks for your advice. From what I understand, the best thing, other than let somebody else do it for me, is to read the instaructions. My s/c should be in soon. I'll keep you posted on my progress.
