so i was drivin through a parkin lot the other day and wanted to put it in neutral to just coast a little bit, but instead my dumb butt puts it in reverse. i was going about 15-20 mph, and popped it into reverse for about half a second to a second, not more than that. then i popped it back into drive real quick after i realized what i had done. the steering got real stiff (as if the power steering shut off) and the battery indicator in the dash lit up. so here i am about to piss my pants cuz i think i ruined my car, and its right at 59, 986 miles, so i cant even get it to a dealer to check it out with the warranty still intact. anyways, i pulled off to the side, turned the car off, waited a second and turned it back on. all indicators were back to normal, and i put it in drive and went....it seems to be driving fine, im listenin extra clsoe for any wierd noises and things like that, but it seems to be doing fine, and it works fine in reverse too. do i need to worry about it still and get it checked out or should i be ok? also for some strange reason, my aftermarket alarm stopped working now, so i cant use the keyless entry or anything like that. do u guys have any idea why that would happen? sorry for the long post, i know i ask a bunch of questions, but hopefully once i learn enough, i can start answering other ppl's questions too 8)

pretty much once that happens, the ecu shuts down and the result is the engine shutting off. that is why the gauge lights came on, if you did not pay attention. same thing happens when a manual car stalls.
as for your alarm- was it working before? there is no connection i can think of from the engine shutting off making the alarm not function. you just might want to try again this morning, since the alarm brain resets once the car has been re-started.

yea it worked fine when i got in the car, and then after i had my little mishap, i drove the rest of the way home and was getting out, hit the lock button, no beep, hit it again, no beep, opened and closed the door, cranked the engine, did everything, still nothing. tried this mornin too...not workin :-( i dont know maybe it blew a fuse cuz the batt indicator did turn on...but ill take it to hte guy that installed it, maybe its somethin simple. im just glad that the alarm isnt activated, cuz its the kind that arms itself after 1 minute automatically, so if u open the door without deactivating it (which can only be done with the remote) id be drivin down the road with the alarm blaring. i read through the manual and theres supposed to be some kind of program override button to put it into valet mode, but i dont have a clue where that button is. by the way its 'crimestopper' brand if anyone has heard of it. but as for my tranny, am i gonna be ok?

hmm... i still find it hard for the alarm to not function from a simple engine shut down, since the alarm can not be activated during motion of the car(unless your alarm has the capability to do so)

go ahead and take the car back to the installer... they would prob be able to figure it out.

yep the battery is the first thing i checked, i put in a new one, still didnt work, and the battery didnt activate itself after a minute like it usually does, so something is def. wrong. hopefully something easy to fix :-?

when youre putting the car into neutral from drive, theres no need to push the button which would prevent that from happening
that hurts though!

SCORE!! i went into the fuse box, disconnected the two wires that were linked to two separate fuses and then connected them back again. the fuses werent blown so they didnt need replacing. but voila, the alarm works fine now! thas pretty wierd, especially since i didnt even have to replace a fuse (which would have been my first suspiscion), but go figure. and im sure glad i got it working, because 1) i was tired of manually locking and unlocking the doors, and 2) i drove to the place i had it installed originally, and theres a law firm there now, so i have no idea where this guy is. i called, number disonncted. so yea, guess im lucky.
