Rear Main Seal... what else?

Rear Main Seal... what else?

Postby CamryOnBronze » Tue Sep 04, 2007 8:31 pm

My mechanic and I determined that my car is due for both a rear main seal and a seal on one of the axles. He is going to replace them for me sometime in the next two weeks, so i need to get the gaskets from toyota. Can you guys recommend any other gaskets that I should replace while we are in there? Id rather fork over the money for gaskets and have it done while the car is torn apart. Any advice from experience is appreciated, thanks!

Honestly from the experience Ive had from replacing gaskets (on other cars), don't replace them unless if their bad. Sometimes you open up a can of worms.

he actually did the clutch last weekend, but was leaving for europe and couldnt get the seal in time by the time we realized it needed one... so hes cracking her back open cheap for me, I needed it asap for a show/meet this weekend... not the most practical idea i know, but sh!t happens...

the clutch, flywheel, and release bearing are all brand new, just need to go back in for seals.

there is really just that one seal....

all and any of the other seals can be reached and accessed otherwise later on. the axles are a cinche to pop out.

so you're pretty much good just doing the rear main seal...

except I don't see how he didn't have time to do it while he was in there....it doesn't take long....

we couldnt get a seal in time is the thing... the toyota dealer here is weaksos and he would be out of twon by the time we could find one, I know it sucks but thats just kind of how it worked out. I need to have some other work done soon anyway, so the car will be in the shop anyway...
