well here's my theory, correct me if i'm wrong. the B pillars in a 4 door car are between the front and rear doors (with the A pillars being in front, around the winshield). typically, b-pillars in a car are pretty strong, designed to absorb a lot of impact, etc etc. so in a 4 door car, when you get nailed form the side, that b pillar helps keep the cabin of the car protected. in a 2 door car however, the doors are typically longer, so the b pillar (if there even is one), is moved farther back. so pretty much when you get nailed from the side, it goes right into the door, and a door cant provide that much protection. i think that's why i feel vulnerable for a side impact.

B-pillar is the passenger side pillar by the front windshield. A-pillar is the driver's side.
