Need some help with what struts to purchase

Well i have a set of Tein lowering springs, now Im just searching for a set of struts. So far i notice everyone recommending Tokico struts with Tein springs, but they are a bit pricy for me. I did some research and found out KYB builds gas struts for the Solara. Are they any good? because the price compared to the Tokico are alot more reasonable to me. So i would appreciate everyone feedback on which type of set up i should go with. In addition, what other things would I need to purchase when planning to lower my car?

BTW I drive a 2002 sleV6.

I would like to add on top of that: all I see one ebay are 99-01, and they don't specify 02-03 for the tokico struts. Are they gonna fit right on without modification?

btw, I've read several posts here saying that the kyb are softer, approximately closer to stock struts, and known to wear out faster. So I would at least get the tokico, and maybe even coilovers(pricy).

KYB Struts are the equivilant of OEM struts. Save up some extra money and go for the Tokico struts. Also yes 99 - 03 Solaras share the same suspension.

KYBs are best for the money..
not all the KYBs wear out fast or are like the OEMs

KYB G2s are excellent for price and dependability and much stiffer than your basic KYBs.. KYB ASXs are even that much better but a lil more pricey

i have never used them on my Solara but plan to soon..
i have used them for most all my other cars and in my opinion seem to hold up as good as any other brand

Another strut i have used and like very much is KONI.. they are the best all around.. they are more than KYB but less than Tokico.. Many of todays racers use KONIs.

Eibach now make some great struts as well.. the cheaper ones are the same as stock IMO. Stage 2s seem worth it to me tho.. great ride, not so stiff, good for daily driving and weekend racing.. not too pricey

yes konis are good too. but kybs even gr2 are oem replacements.. asx are performance type.. but they cost a lot more , so why not jsut get tokicos

My .02 don't get the TRD (Bilstein) struts if you come across them. I have them paired w/Teins and my ride is horrible, thinking about getting something softer this summer.

It's understandable, it's a rougher ride than OEM. But some people love having bruised kidneys.

thats cuz these are stiff not like your oem's

If you want a stiff ride and want to corner like CO's then get TRD's

I would focus most on what you want your ride quality to be like and how you use your car.

I had the money for the tokicos and still bought the kyb gr2s. From my extensive research, these have the ride quality most similiar to OEM. Since my ride is a daily driver, and I can't stand a stiff ride, I went with the kyb's. Plus, I hate the bright blue color of the tokicos.

If you want something more performance oriented, save up your money for the tokicos, or the other brands listed above. I hope this helps. BTW, I love the kybs, even though the popular choice differs on this forum.

i have KYB GR2 and eibach combo for my 94 camry v6, the ride is very harsh for a daily drive for me.
i recently replaced all 4 with tokico struts for my 99 solara v6, keeping everything stock, and very please with the ride, no more floaty feel, just a little stiffer than OEM setup, no drop, no harsh ride, yet stick to the road, the suspension now feels like driving a brand new lexus IS.

get tokico man. I just got some with eibach lowering springs and love it. The ride isnt super harsh either. Tokico hands down man.
