A friend of mine is currently running 110 octane racing fuel in his truck. He claimes he gets a performance boost. I was wondering if that might be true for the solara even though the engine is designed for 92 octane (i think)

part of it is just his mindset of thinking it works better.

If you're running forced induction (super charger / turbo) then yes, you can push your car harder w/o risking an engine blow. otherwise, he's wasting his money.

My Solara requires the basic one, but I put premium... in my head, it feels better... but it doesn't really do much. But I do notice a VERY small gain in milage if I have a full load

You will NOT get a performance gain from higher octane fuel unless your engine is retarding timing. 93 octane is more than enough for a stock engine, and 110 is excessive. Only extremely high compression engines need that kinda fuel to prevent detonation

talk about a lot more emissions, and maybe even more harmful buildup in engine from the combustion

I put in 87 in the V6... Don't feel much loss of power than using 94 Octane.

Since i last posted i raced him in my i4 solara and even with cam 2 (110 octane fuel) intake and exaust i beat him easy. Oh and btw Cam 2 is about $5 a gallon and isn't street legal.

unless you have serious mods on your car, run 87...that's what our engines were designed to run on...

87-89 on naturally-aspirated and 91-93 on S/Ced. I have run 116 in my motorcycle and it messes with my timing. Tell your friend to save the money from that fuel and buy perf mods.
