2004 Solara in Import Tuner

Postby TadS » Mon Jun 30, 2003 9:34 pm

I just got the new issue of Import Tuner. They actually have a blurb in it about the new 2004 Solara :o . Not actually worth buying the magazine. for, but I just thought it was nice that it got some mention. Maybe now millions of part companies will preemptively flood the market with parts ! Well, we can hope :).

do they have ANY 04 solaras on the road right now? I swear I saw one the other day, but I couldn't tell, it was too dark...I tried to get close to it while I was driving to see what it was. When we finally got to a red light, they change lanes and I couldn't see. All I could see was that it was 2door, a toyota, and had the same outline as the new solara.

Looked a little too small to be a solara..maybe it was a different model

i think it was a sc430.... a lot of people like putting SOARER and TOYOTA badges on it... although I think they only have SOARER badges w/ grphyns on them... bleh

I think the Solara is due out in August... unless that person got one of the test models... somehow

More or less , but they did include one of Toyota's press photos.

The picture / write up are on p. 20. for those that like to read the magizines that are still on the rack. Looking at this picture I still am not sure on the look of the car.

Sometimes you see cars before they are released to the market! Yeah, sometimes its a test run..sometimes its to celeb's, sometimes people just pay outrageous amounts for them..... I remember I saw the worlds first Lambo convertible and talk to the ownerand everything...touched the car...in the end he told me to keep it quiet because he had signed a contract to keep it a secret till end of next week...a week later....the same car was shown on "Top Gear" (BBC WORLD)...as they debut for Lambo convertible......so yeah, its possible you could have seen that driving around somewhere...

I have a copy of Car and Driver and they stated the 2004 Solara will have the option of a 5-speed automatic.
That would be kind of cool. But they made no mention of a manual transmission.

I guess you joined the forum after the whole revealing of the 04.

The v6 will have a standard 5 speed auto with sequential shift. There is no 5 speed manual, although they will probably be considering it due to Honda's avail. 6 speed manual... The price changes should be announced in the near future... pressroom.toyota.com

May seem like a dumb question... but what is the difference between a sequential shift, and just keeping it in first, then putting in in 2nd, then just putting it into [D]

Sorry for the dumb question

it's not dumb

1-2-D is on a normal auto tranny

sequential shift is, in this 5 speed case,

1-2-3-4-5

It's like the system on Benz. You put it into "sport shift" mode and you can keep whatever gear you want as long as you want. But you can play with all the gears.... but it's only in order... there's no funny shifting like 1-3 etc etc... although i wouldn't understand why someone would do that anyhow

Well this "sport shift", with a regular auto transmission (at least on the Solara) I can keep it whatever gear kinda. For example, I can keep it on [1] and it won't shift into 2nd. Or I can keep it in [2] and it wont go into 3rd, but it will drop down back to 1st.

Isn't that the same thing or theory?
