Solara = Gas Killa?

Solara = Gas Killa?

Postby Ray Z » Tue Jul 01, 2003 8:15 pm

Does anyone else have problems with their Solara straight KILLING gas??? It already costs me anywhere between $25-28 to fill it up, only to put out a little over 400 miles to the tank. My last car (96 Honda Accord, also an I-4) cost about $8 less to fill up and got around the same amount of mileage as the Sizzle. I always use 89 grade gas, oil and air filter changes are on the regular and I've even had the engine checked out at the dealership where I got it from (which they of course found nothing wrong with it). . . Anyone else have this problem??

more hp = more gas. And also, the solara has 18.5 tank. And are you travel at least 70% local?

I get 360-375 miles on 16-17 gallons, and costs about $30-35 to fill, 91 octane. Consider yourself one of the lucky ones.

Its all about how you drive...you gotta heavy foot? always speed up to a red light? you will waste gas easy...
Time off and on the freeway also affects gas mileage.

IMO Solara's i4 engine gets good mileage..dunno bout the v6

That's true. You'd be surprised how much you could save by driving a more practical method. If the next light is red, I usually shift to neutral and just let my car glide til I reach about 20 ft before the line then I put on the brakes. I did this for the whole tank of gas which is about 2 weeks of only city driving and I gained 30 more miles to the empty line.

Also, I have learned that stepping on the gas to speed up 10 - 15mpg over the speed limit while driving with street lights that go green and red only gets you 1 minute earlier to the destination compared to driving normally. Not worth it.

btw, DAMN on the 400 miles of full tank. That has never happened to me before :o

My 5S can make over a 100 miles (90% Highway) on $5 of 93octane. That is 5 days a week for the last 3 years :). You must being pushing too hard or something man.
Let's just pretend I didn't grow up, or you're going to be terribly disappointed.

I get about 400 per tank on streets w/ my 4-cyl.

I get A LOT MORE on freeways!

The tank is huge... so that's why it costs so much to fill up! duh... but the milage is pretty damn good... but you have to remember that the Honda was SOHC... so you can floor it all you want w/o wasting gas hahaha!!
1GR-FE ftw!

I got about 380 mile per gallon (91 octane) about 24-27 mpg on my turboed 5SFE with 310cc injectors.

I calculate it by fill my gas to full first, reset my trip meter to 0.
then drive it until the light almost on, then fill it all the way to full. Then i use the miles divided by how many gallons i filled in (you can read it from the machine or the receipt)...that will be your MPG
