Anybody intrested in CB radios?

I have one installed in my 98 Ford Explorer, am contemplating putting one in my Solara.

Any suggestions.... Where could it go? In the explorer it's underneath the radio/climate controls but in the Solara, it would never fit. Does anybody have one (not handheld) in their Solara?

It sounds like quite a project there!

My dad had one in his OLD car (80s Mazda 626, I think the Turbo)
and there was nowhere to put it so he ended up drilling some mounts on the passenger side under the glove compartment. I'm pretty sure you don't want to do that... but it worked fine for him... but I think we have a bunch of important electronic things behind/around the glove... iono =x

My Explorer has mounts under the radio/climate control for the CB to be attached to. My life would be so much easier if the Solara's had those!!! I believe it is very simple to get up and working, I just don't know where to put it. xravexboix - you are totally right! I would never want to hurt my baby.

My dad doesn't have a license for the one in the Explorer now, I guess if you don't use it for business then you are fine! Plus, you don't get that big of a range but it alerts you of bears (cops) and traffic conditions, so I like it! On a side note: "It's only illegal if you get caught." LOL.

Where in your Solara would you put the CB Mole?

back in highschool all my friends had trucks, jeeps, scouts, etc. and we got cbs so we could find each other when driving around or so we could goof off when caravaning from party to party. anyways...i had to find a way to fit my full sized cobra in my 89 camry..i just rigged it on the passenger side of the center console with some padding and bungee cords..the install coulda been neater, but it was otherwise a good location for reaching all the knobs and display.

on a side note, i also had a 6" PA speaker rigged up behind my front grille so i could pull up to house parties and pretend i was the cops...so much fun back in HS!

Jen,

I know you said you didn't want a handheld.... but this is the one that I have in my Durango. It is Cobra WX-75. It is a great unit and even has the NOAA weather bands.

Just my .02

Regards,

Chuck

My handheld that I use sometimes is probably not as powerful it is a Cobra 38WXST. I don't like it as much as my bigger one but I may just end up using it in Sammy.
