Why Cross Drilled Rotors?

From the price difference I'm noticing - I can't imagine car enthusiasts would buy cross-drilled rotors off of appearance only. What's the performance difference and what exactly am I paying for if I put 'em on my ride?
The cheapest I've seen 'em is around $225 including back discs. Dose anybody know a good site to check 'em out? What should I do to clean up the brakes before I put the rims on? Thanks...

Cross drilled/slotted rotors allow air to flow through the rotors so they can cool. There are some other advantages... I'm sure someone that owns them can give you a better explanation

Oh yeah - because it says with back discs, do I have to buy rotors for the back to match or what's included? On one site it says " purchase front rotors with back discs" implying a set for the back is included. Another says "for Solara's with rear discs" - implying the set is made for Solara's that already have rear discs. Please clarify for a rookie like myself - Thanks Guys...

Depends on if you have a 4 or 6cyl. The 4cyl has front discs/rear drums. The v6 has front/rear discs.

xdrilled and/or slotted offer no real world performance gains except to reduce heat and combat brake pad under extreme stress. They are mainly for looks, i'd replace both at the same time. It would look weird with 2 front xdrilled and slotted and 2 regular rears

Your front brakes do most of the stopping... the rear do a little. the rear ones would mostly be for looks... so they match up. THe front ones are enough if you're actually considering them for stopping power. If you can afford it, you might as well get the rear ones. hehehe

just start with better brake pads (ie EBC) and SSB brake lines(goodridge)

you shall feel the stopping power with just that.

There is a group buy on brembo @ groupbuycenter.com. I called to find out how much money they are and I found out that its 219 for the front and 166 for the rear, and for brembo pads just for the front its 74 dollars.

As long as you are replacing rotors, I would paint the calipers, if they need it. Also, I would paint the surfaces of the rotors that are not in contact with the pads. Masking take and newspaper works well to keep the paint off the areas you don't want to paint.

I painted the rotors and calipers black with a high temp resistant engine paint (most places sell caliper paint too). A lot of people like to paint calipers red, it wasn't the look I was going for.

I did my brakes up about 3 weeks ago. The biggest thing I have noticed, other than the increased stopping power due to the greenstuffs, is that I no longer get brake judder when leaving the interstate, which is usually, according to EBC, caused by overheating the brake disc.

those with the solara 4cyl, did u guyz only get rotors for the front and paint the rear drums. Thats i want i think i want to do

i4 solara's with ABS did get 4 disc's (if i'm not wrong)...hence 4 discs were not restricted to v6 models only!

I painted my rear drums red to match my calipers.
