After reading a recent discussion over at CMPL (http://www.camryman.org/cgi-bin/config.pl?read=200286) I wanted to poll you guys and get some feedback.

So does your insurance company know about your blower? If yes, how were your premiums affected?

I haven't told my ins co. as of yet, but was considering the move. I'd hate to be denied a claim at a time I need it the most.

It should be covered since it's a TRD.
You just say that it's dealer installed option as a part of sport package.

I was thinking of using that line too, but unless you've got a good lawyer, it ain't simple as saying "it's the sport pkg" :-?

It's a Toyota parts not an aftermarket should be covered.

The fact that it's Toyota manufactured product has nothing to do with insurance. That's a warranty issue.

When you had your car insured, the ins co was under the impression that it was a "typical" Solara without upgrades. Your premiums were derived based on the fact that your car didn't have a $2000 supercharger. If you play it by the books and you want full coverage, the addition of your supercharger should be reported to your insurer just like you would any modification (audio, rims etc...) The fact that it's a TRD part doesn't mean you don't have to report it. Furthermore, with the growing number of "racing" related accident claims, the ins co are looking under ppls hoods at the first opportunity they get at the accident scene to use it to deny claims.

Happy_aggies, be careful. You're facts may be incorrect. I'd hate to see one of us get into a major accident and have to put up a legal fight just because we're trying to save a few bucks.

Some insurance companies don't want to cover modified cars. Click the link below for the article.
