Wheel risks

Wheel risks

Postby GR » Wed Jul 09, 2003 7:43 pm

I have 15" steel wheels for my camry and I was planning to change them to 17" lightweight wheels. Unfortunately Im on a budget crisis so I was thinking of installing only two of them on the rear. Is there anything that I should take note of?

Also the wheels will get rotated sooner or later, therefore by rotating the lighter wheels to the front, will it deplete traction in a much quicker rate?

Edit: posted on the solara board for... obvious reasons.

hmm a worthy note you might consider is that by having 2 rims and 2 stocks, you will qualify for a ricer.

just save up until you can afford all 4 :)

Thanks for the advice. It was a friend of mine who suggested it. Although I seriously doubt that he knows anything about racing based on that really tall spoiler on his del sol... why putting so much downforce for a front wheel drive is beyond me. Yeah he is the typical 'ricer' type...

I think I'll go save up for the other 2 then, as I would try my best earning the cash without any loaning - that's for college.

That'll be another half a year when my checks stack up to $1000 :(

there is only 1 time that it's "ok" (almost) to have 2 different RIMS (not 2 steel and 2 rims)...

when you have a rwd car that looks better w/ larger rear rims... I think the MR-2 is like this... and a handful of the jgtc cars... which make them look nice... sometimes =x

but it's not right if you just can't afford all 4... lol

hey one thing, check ebay because a lot of people will sell slightly used rims for really good prices, including tires. shop around, see what you like and then search on ebay for it. you never know what you might find. a rim isn't something that gets worse with time (besides for minor scratches), so theres no harm in gettin a used set. just make sure the seller guarantees they wont be bent or anything like that. and ebay you can narrow it down to items in your area, so you save on shipping too if you want.

LoL I get you...

I've already checked e-bay... based on this link on (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=38662&item=2421937515)...

It would be somewhere about $700 (includes shipping) for the same type of wheels/tires, only for 17". Based on the amount of spokes I could probably find a cheaper deal too, for 5 spoke wheels...
