car auction

i have a friend that knows a guy who has a license for a car auction. he recommended that i get my new car from there. i was wondering if anyone has an opinions on whether this is a good idea or not. he said u can go in teh days before the auction and look at the cars and pick which one you want, etc. i dont know if they allow you to take it to a mechanic or not, but ive heard u can pull a carfax and at least drive it around the parking lot. he said they are mainly bank repo vehicles at these auctions. so does anyone have any advice or tips or insight about something like this? should i stay away or go for it?

My friend got his Solara through a licensed car auction buyer (resale through his business)

Most of the cars are repos (I'd keep away from those... if they can't afford the payment... how could they take care of it... ) but he got his as a Toyota Lease Return. From what I know, lease returns are inspected by the dealer and some parts are replaced (his suspension was brand new). So those may be a good deal.

99 se v6 w/ all the options except leather for 11k after taxes... 46k miles

The first owner's name will be something like "toyota lease" or something to that effect. "Toyot LSE" i think...

damn, thas awesome. when did he get it? in other words, a 99 model in 2000 is worth a lot more than a 99 model in 2003.

man that's a hell of a deal, most of the 99 models here are at least 12-13k before taxes. if you dont mind, could u ask him if they let him test drive it and take it to a mechanic before he bought? thanks

Auction cars are generally cheaper than dealerships to begin with. Dealers (sometimes) get their used cars from these auctions, and do a detail job..and make it road worthy..and then add the markup. I'd buy from an auction a newer car with less than 36K miles after i do a carfax and check it myself. Expect to pay at least 3K less than regular price.

The seller actually gave us the keys and told us to be back within an hour (since we got to his house at about 9 PM). So I was with my friend w/o the seller present. But this is the guy we bought it from... it may not be the same w/ the person you get it from.

well a little update. i gave the guy a call and he said he actually had 4 solaras last week, two of them manual

. and the day before the auctions, you can look at the cars, pull up a carfax, and just drive it around the lot, but not outside. and AFTER you buy it, you can have a mechanic look at it for 70 bucks, and then your purchase will be warrantied for 7 days in case anything goes wrong. since a friend of his sent me to him, he's not charging me any profit for himself. all i have to pay is tax, auction fee, and tag fee. so im gonna go in about two weeks and check it out, can't wait. oh and if anyone has anymore advice or warnings, definetely let me know, since i want to go in with as much knowledge as possible. and thanks to xravexboix and jhbhatia for the help

How are you planning to pay for this? (i'm not sure of you local laws)..but in Wisconsin..we had to pay cash/mo/ccheck or something in that manner to get access to the car...you could leave a $500 deposit for you to come back to...

yea the thing is i made those posts at work and the internet is really quirky, i think it kept deleting the cookies and logging me out
