JP Exhaust Possible Fitment Issue

Postby CamryOnBronze » Fri Feb 08, 2008 9:40 pm

I am having a very experienced shop install it... i dont have time to sit here and wait for a new y-pipe to come because I need the car back for a show in 3 weeks. I will go to the shop monday before he cuts it and see if we can find a way to fit it. Thanks for the advice.

I didn't remove it, I just loosened it and rotated the engine forward for clearance. PITA!!! The only thing I didn't like was the solid mount for the cat-back and the cat. POS! I cannot pass smog here in Wisconsin. There is no increase in temp after the cat, there should be with the gases being burned....thats what it's for...right??? So I'm going to have a 3" Magnaflo with flanges welded on, put in it's place.

one thing I know is that there is a hanger on the system that I didn't use because there wasn't a factory hanger where it was welded... hopefully they arn't trying to use that hanger where it shouldn't be used..

We noticed that as well, so no worries on that... good catch though.

Thanks Mike, I appreciate that offer a lot! I spoke with my shop guy today and the piece is already cut and ready to be rewelded. I guess part of the y-pipe was a little off, but it wasnt too bad from what he told me. He would have it all welded and reinstalled but he was out of welding gas thursday, so it will go on tuesday. Thanks for the advice guys, Ill get pictures of where the issue was then and post them if I can. As long as its all together and I wont be charged for the adjustment (which my mechanic told me I wont) it doesnt really bother me as much. You guys are right, could be something on my end for all we know...

Ill keep everyone posted for future reference.

you can see where we had to extend the y pipe- it was about an inch and a half short to reach the rear header.

I was wrong when I stated that I have an issue with the cat. I replaced it and STILL have the same problem. As for the mount for the midpipe on the cat-back, there is a tapped hole in the above crossmember. A fine threaded bolt and solid mount came with the kit. It kinda resonates throughout the car when installed. I did install it, because I wasn't sure if it was needed due to the extra weight of the cat-back.

Good to hear but that is still rough for 1600 dollars. But who cares as long as you are happy with the performance and sound. I am really interested in the sound of the magnaflow muffler on there.

To be off 1.5" is huge. There's no way a weld fixture could allow that.

I'm curious if anyone else has seen this problem. If so, post up the year of your car, did it have California emissions package (pre-cats in the manifold) and if you have the 5 speed transmission.

I'm thinking there must be a difference in some model. Someone should try pulling Toyota part numbers for the front pipe and see if there is more than one part number. If so, that would probably be the difference.

Then inform JP about the different part numbers. They might need to make another part number.
