Non Low Profile Tire Sizes

Non Low Profile Tire Sizes

Postby FLASH » Wed Jul 16, 2003 8:40 am

I MAY be getting 17" rims, depending on how good my bidding goes on ebay, but I don't want low profiles. Reason being I don't want to worry about potholes or anything of the such. I don't want to have to change my tires in the winter, or mainly hear my parent's BS. So what size tire would be good for 17s? Also, I coiuld be dropping my car in the future, so I'd want a size that wouldn't rub once dropped...if thats possible.

Drivetrains are designed around the overall wheel + tire diameter so you have to stay pretty close to stock diameter. Larger wheels mean the tire sidewall will have to be less.

Most everbody gets 225/40's for 18" wheels. I think its 215/55's for 17" wheels but I'm not exactly sure about that. There are a lot of wheel/tire info links under weblinks in this forum, www.tirerack.com is also a good source.

Look for a good all season tire rather than an ultra high performance and you should be ok to run 17's all year.

my 225/40 R18's rub on an 8" rim, so i'd go for a 215/50 or 215/55 and you should be safe in avoiding rubbing once dropped check http://www.dakota-truck.net/TIRECALC/tirecalc.html here to find the closest match for sure though.

They are tires that have a Lower profile than normal tires. They are just as wide if not wider but aren't as tall

Acording to the 2001 TRD Catalog: the trd wheel + tire combo rolls on 225/45zr17; From personal exp - i have used 205/45/17's - didn't like them too much...Currently rolling on 215/45/17's...I've yet to use 225's to comment on those.
Just on a side note: Bigger sizes = more wear ; so you don't want ur parents b*tching about your tires...you might want to think about treadlife when upsizing..and them b*tching in the future...

If you don't want low profile tires, don't get 17's. Nuff said.

I am running 225/45/17 on a 17x7 +40 wheel. I have a 1.8" drop and everything is great here.
Let's just pretend I didn't grow up, or you're going to be terribly disappointed.
