TRD sc Basics?

TRD sc Basics?

Postby syn48 » Sat Feb 23, 2008 9:21 pm

Hi all i am new to the forum i am actually doing research on the behalf of a friend who owns a 99 solara. He would like to do the TRd supercharger, i will be handling the install and have the knowledge to do so. my buddy is trying to do it on a conservative budget. What i am wondering is once the kit is purchased are there any other supporting mods he will absolutely need?

injectors, fuel pump, exhausts, Ect?

i have searched on here but i haven't really found a thread on the bare minimum or a recommended setup

thanks for your time

No major supporting mods needed, Only recommendations if he is going to push it.. Automatic or manual? If auto recommend you put on a tranny cooler. Also take the time to change the plugs.

Exhaust, Intake, and so on are nice to have.

ITs An auto, would a stall converter be useful to him if he ever wanted to turn the boost up?

and at what point might traction come into play i think he would like to run about 300whp and from the looks of it he will need a2.0 pulley correct?

i havent really looked into the engine of this car yet will it need to be pulled in order to put this thing on?

300 whp and conservative budget do not belong in the same sentence...

no need to pull the engine to install the SC. hard part is going to find a TRD SC unless you already have one. The 1mz internals aren't all that great, so if he ever wants to up the boost safely, it'll be a conservative upgrade, no more than 6 psi (you'll have to read the other threads on this, very much debated).

300HP for an auto without doing internal work won't happen. Auto's that have surpassed that figure all did some kind of internal work.

and besides for the engine....tranny = boom! at that kind of power

tell him to go 5-speed first....a better performance and investment in my opinion than going just s/c

yep, 5sp, clutch/flywheel/LSD then you might not even wanna touch the s/c... NOT haha but it will make the experience much better with tranny support.

a member has used a quaife LSD before. Just remember that the Solara/Camry manual transmission is the E153 which is identical to the MR2 turbo. Parts are interchangeable. There are manual solaras and Camrys as well. 5sp Camry from the factory is rare as they only came in the CE edition. Solaras can be had with a 5ps as long as its not the SLE.

Check in the forsale section for CAMRAZY as he is selling an entire manual swap kit complete with LSD etc.

yeah the Solara came with a 5 speed as an option. First thing I would do... is make sure your friend can drive a standard, then look into getting a 5 speed. I believe there are a few guys on here selling 5 speed trannys and swap parts. Look around, oh and welcome to the forum.

i may be wrong but i think Kazza makes the only LSD avalible for the e153. im also in agreement with the others 300hp and budget will result in blowing somthing.

^yes quaife does make one. or did at least. but i think it was only marked under the mr2, not camry, but since its interchangable it would work.
