I believe you have purchase the wrong bolt pattern... out solaras bolt pattern is 5x114.3 not 5x100.

and the offset recommended is 35 to 45 or so... depending on how wide your rim is. 38 offset is good but you bolt pattern will not fit.

i would go with like 225/40/18

with 18's that would be a good size.... 235 will rub...

i have 18x7.5 with the 225/40/18 tires and i have never had any problems.. run smooth as a baby's bottom.. hahaha

I'm running 225/40 18'"s with a 40mm offset and they rub a little when i have people in the back and i bottom out on a dip or something... 235/40's will definitely rub A LOT, but rolling.shaving your fenders is a good solution if you want to go through that trouble. i haven't been able to find a place in the austin area that will do it for under $150, but apparently lots of guys have got it done for like a third of that cost. 225's should be the easiest way out.

wheel base is measured from the center of one wheel to the center of the other wheel (on the same side). so, no it won't change.
you will change the overall diameter though, check this website out:

that should help.

honestly my motegi mr7's made the wheel look smaller than it really was...it was also probably because it was 225/35/18 tires...instead of 40/18....but not being lowered will not make it look lowered for having bigger rims...(did that make sense?)..L8r, moe
