ACT clutch installed

ACT clutch installed

Postby crash2 » Fri Jul 18, 2003 9:10 am

got the ACT clutch installed, it is grabby as hell. I had to learn how to drive all over again. It grabs at about a half in off the floor. ACT claims a 38% pressure increase(ie meaning more power transferred to the wheels) . ...good thing I didn't get the 6 spoke; it would have been harsh

also new thermostat, new timing belt, new accessory belts, new plug
wires, new water pump, installed yesterday.

just wanna share feedback.

How many hours did it take for the clutch job? Did you need a clutch or just want to upgrade to something better?

Also, did you go with a OE Toyota thermostat or an aftermarket?

I needed a clutch. ...too many burn outs, too many full load uphills, etc..

The old clutch had about .5 mm left and had broken pieces off of the little rollers.

The clutch job took a full day because the way the solara is configured, you have to remove the H-beam before the tranny can be dropped.

GREAT! That just finalized my decision in getting that same clutch. How much did you get it for? I plan on getting the ACT clutch by August along with the Fidanza flywheel.

Just something to think about....Have you considered a Clutchmasters clutch? I have a Stage 2, which I bought to replace the weak stock clutch. It's just as easy to engage as the stock clutch, but is supposed to have 70% more grabbing power. I'm very happy with it.

Didn't know Cluthcmasters made one. But as far as engaging are you refering to your ACT or the Clutchmasters?

I was referring to the Clutchmasters Stage 2. I hear that Stage 3 has easy engagement, as well. You might want to pose a question on this forum, as well as camryman and teamsc3, about people's experiences with different aftermarket clutches. There are several that will fit our cars.

I've tried doing searches on the web for some aftermarket clutches, but with little luck. Maybe i'm just not doing the right search. You guys have the web addresses for ACT or Clutchmasters?

I don't know about ACT, but Clutchmasters is www.Clutchmasters.com.

When I was looking into mine, I found it a little difficult to use the website because they didn't have an application for a Camry or Solara. If I recall, the correct part is the same as for the MR2 Turbo, but you should call them at the number listed on the website.

No problem. By the way, ACT stands for Advanced Clutch Technologies, I think. You can probably do a search on that.
