SUPERCHARGER INSTALL

SUPERCHARGER INSTALL

Postby GNAW » Mon Jul 21, 2003 11:11 am

Hey guys, this pose is for 2 reasons....

One, im in NORCAL, SAN JOSE area and im getting my charger in so im hoping to find a good place for my gauges install (airfuel, and boost) unless its a really easy job and i can do it myself. I already have them but im kinda nervous about the install.

Two, my solara went into Toyota on friday for the install and they quoted me 685 for the supercharger install plus changing the spark plugs which wasnt too bad i think, they said they usually charge 220 for the spark plugs even if you already have them, sounded kinda like crap but i wasnt sure. Also they called me this morning saying that they were gonna charge me another 165 since i have a PSII under the glove and it blocking a step of the install, NOW I JUST WANT TO KNOW IF THATS COMPLETE BS, or is it pretty crucial, i mean even if it is i can take that thing out in like 25 min but their expecting to charge me 165.. but since i dunno how the charger install goes im not sure if their just messing with me... I HAVE TO ASK...

THANKX IN ADVACE... david

go spend the 25 mins and remove the PSII
save the $165....you'll need it to buy premium gas out it Cali!

$685 sounds steep. at $80/hr, that's over 8.5 hrs labor. should be around 6 hrs labor (standard time). that puts it ~$480. tell them you got a quote from another dealer that they'd do it for $480 but you don't like that dealer and wanted to go to them instead. they'll think they will earn a customer if they knock the price down. trust me, i do this all day long!

I changed all six spark plugs for my solara in less than an hour in my home garage. Dunno why they would charge 220 for it. Charging $165 just cause something is in the glovebox is BS. They probably don't know how to take it out, so they'll charge as much as they can for labor.

actually, no. you need to access the area behind the glove box in order to install the EBC, so no that's not BS. just remove your PSII and save yourself the money.

krooked is right...the area behind the glove box is important for the supercharger computer(electronic boost controller) if they are charging you 165 to remove it and then install it again, it sounds accurate...however i wouldnt let them, instead i would go and remove it myself...but the info they gave you is not BS. Thank guys, i just got the car back and they charged me 598 total, with the spark plugs, so i guess it wasn't as bad. I went for a test drive and boy do i love that sound, but i dunno i just dont feel the pull that much, maybe since i have an AUTO.

Now im looking for a good play for the gauges install and probably also an upgraded pulley....

thankx

I wasn't saying that they didn't have to go behind the glovebox, I was just saying the price is too high.

GNAW, have fun with the new supercharger.

It took my local mechanic 8 hrs over the span of a few days to do the install. He has a lot of experience, but had never installed a supercharger on a 1mz-fe. At $50/hr I thought it was still a resonable price.

Does he do gauges?? or can he do the pulley change im still in need of those installs..

Also, i was running my car much harder today and i cant help but hate the gear changes in my auto when i mash the pedal. Im assuming its just an auto problem cause i dont have this problem on my eclipse but when i floor it and it gears up the RPM drops really low and it feels like im lightly breaking, i never really noticed it till after i installed the charger, do others who have an auto have the same situation or is it just me ?

And thankx geminimouse... im already having a blast

what you are feeling is a loss in boost between gear shifts...its normal...all auto's will drop boost while switching gears...also you might want to know the first time i got my s/c installed i felt a very light boost also...i finally got my boost measure and saw i was only getting 1.5 psi...i took my car back to the dealership and they kept it for a few more days the problem was in the ebc; it wasnt wired correctly or something, so they replaced it and also there was a loose vaccum hose; when i got my car back i was reading about 3.8 to 4.0 psi and it felt muuuuch better...so get the boost gauge ASAP it might tell you something you dont know! L8r moe (hope this helped)

ps: alot of people say if wired correctly an auto should not recieve boost in 1st gear, mine and yanks0114's s/c do recieve it in first while wired correctly...are you getting any in 1st?

also L8R MOE, just wondering how little your boost felt ?? cause mine does feel really low.. i can definately hear the WHINE.. but im sure that doesnt mean im getting boost, i bought my charger from this forum a LONGG time ago and never got a chance to install it till recently so im hoping its not something i need to replace...

is there another way i can test it.. like 0-60 time.. maybe i can compare it with yours.

any advice would help, thankx
