I want to swap out my headunit for a color touchscreen, not one of those flip up ones, something built in, clean and oem looking. CD, AM/FM tuner, DVD, MP3 (browsable playlists) and GPS Navigation - as it is in my dreams.

well they do have a tv that can flip in and out so no one can see it...and reduces the chances of it getting stole...eclipse headunits are sweet....later on you will be able to add gps to it..but it will cost you... :D

You won't notice the difference between 200 and 300 watts. That is only a 1.8 dB increase, you need at least 3 dB to tell the difference. Unless you end up with 1000-2000 watts, it won't seem like much of an increase.

Sorry dude, but that is the fact.

From my experience, I stand firmly behind infinity and alpine. Reference series is choice, and at very reasonable cost. The V-12 Amps from alpine are great, but a little higher in price than others. Same with headunits fantastic, but a little more costly. They're also not as showy and flashy as others, so thats a little psychological theft deterrant. You'll get the clarity you want, and depending on the size amp you get, the volume you desire as well!

Yeah figured that I wouldnt get a big increase in sound unless I got and amp and a sub...those are in my future plans...i heard about this new sub that comes in a tube or something and its two 10's the power of two 15's or something..and all I know is that it doesnt take any space whatsoever...but It will be out soon..have you guys heard of something like that?

Eclipse, Alpine, and Pioneer Premier are probably some of top of the line h/u's you should be looking at. With good warrantees, decent pricing, and sound quality, definetely consider these.

Go to this site, read the forums, search some info, learn alot and check out what other people are runnin. I recommend the Eclipse for security reasons. They use a ESN system, some sort of Eclipse security thing, where if the brain of the system is ever stolen, it can't be used again unless the master CD that first activated the h/u was placed in it again. Go to Eclipse's website and it'll give further detail.

More advice before I give you that link.... go for as high a voltage pre-amp output as you can (usually around 4 to 5v for most h/u's) so if you ever run the pre-out to an outboard amp, it will have sufficient input signal. I think 200 to 300 bucks is a good starting point for a decent headunit.

aftermarket headunit

Postby HKSV6SLE » Wed Jul 23, 2003 2:25 pm

I agree with everyone else...a little increase in power isn't gonna be very unoticable...also..unless u don;'t drive your car verey much i wouldn't get a aftermarket headunit...just use a line split....if ur gonna get new speakers...u can go cheap and get pioneeer four ways..at best buy...but they don't sound that great....or i would say go with jl audio components or my installer suggesested Mb quarts or maybe even infinity kappas...but then again i don't know if u have the upgraded Jbl system...but i hav have those in my car and they still are ok..despite me blasting my music...and really punishing them....

terrible advice since he plans on putting in an amp and sub at some point. those will not run worth a damn off the stock hed unit. definately get an aftermarket h/u.

I've heard of a few of those tubes. Most of them suck and are generally used by people with trucks. I would never get one personally.
