i bought a new dayco polycog belt (the one for 5.5 psi) and i can't keep that thing tight enough to not chirp on me! i have been tightening it up constantly and it will be good for a few days and then it goes back to the squealing again....thinking about just ditching that thing and going with a gator belt....where would i get one of those anyway!

so, I presume that you have the old belt assembly without the dynamic tensioner?

and if you're using your alternator...how does it keep getting loose? did you make sure to tighten your pivot bolt as well, and not just raise the adjustment by it itself?

What length is your belt? I have the 87.5" gator belt with my gen. 1 s/c and it's perfect. It was actually a bit tight to fit around my 4psi pulley, so I would assume it would work for the 5.5 pulley as long as you're using the alternator for tension. Summit racing has the gator belt for like $27 bucks, but I just bought an 87.5" dayco and it's the exact same specs.

Oh, make sure you alternator lock bolt is correctly working. I didn't have proper tension on the belt until I replaced mine.

yeah you bet! it was fine for a while and now it just seems that i can't get it tight enough to stop the dang squealing! i think that i am just going to go with a gator back from autozone and see what i come up with! this polycog hasn't been on the car for more than 1500 miles!

i am running the gatorback belt as well, I believe it was supposed to be for a jeep... but I just got it at Murrays, like $22 I think I am running an 88.2" belt on the 4 psi pulley and picked up an 87.5 for 5.5 psi.

i went with the dayco polycog that was for the 5.5psi pulley even though i knew that it would be a bit small because i plan on 5.5 this summer! i am going by autozone to buy the 4060875 gator back tonight...enough of this squealing crap.....i just don't want to over tight my current belt and put unnecessary strain on my sc'er!

okay so i went out lastnight and bought a gator back (4060875) and went home to install, but when looking over the pulley assembly, i could see that one of my bolts that runs through one of the pulleys was backed about half way out.....so i tightened it back up and waaalaaa no more squealing.....boy if i would have just taken a closer look earlier it would have saved me a bunch of wasted time! ahhh but it sounds so perfect now!

Glad to hear everything worked out for you in the end. Did you end up keeping the gatorback?
