Supercharger Belt Tension

I am having my first supercharger belt change for my 1mz-fe 2000 solara. If I'm using a 6 lb. pulley instead of the stock, does this alter the tension setting of the belt? I'm going to have a shop do it since I don't trust myself enough, but needed to know the exact torque when installing the belt. Any help is appreciated.

120lb should be the tension on the BELT.

No matter what size of pulley you're using, the belt should initially be tensioned to 120 lbs. After running the engine for a bit, it should drop between 70-90 lbs. You may need a shorter belt if just switching to the 6 lb. pulley in order to get the correct tension on the belt.

But, if u have the dynamic tensioner, u shouldnt have to worry about the tension on the belt


If u have the older setup however....it needs to be at 120lb on the belt...but a good mechanic can tension and check it by hand.

Thank you. Where would I obtain a shortened belt specifically for this setup? I'm just using a standard setup...had this installed about 3-4 years ago.

Stock length of the belt is 87.5mm for the s/c w/o an automatic tensioner. That should also work for a 6 lb. pulley. You might be able to find one at a local auto parts store, but I had to order mine online. I currently have a goodyear gatorback, but dayco works.
