Question about 1999 SLE

Postby DDH1313 » Thu Jul 31, 2003 5:13 pm

Hello to everyone from a first time poster... October of last year I bought a 1999 Solara SLE. My prior vehicle was a 1995 Camry LE V6 which I loved from day 1. My first impression of the Solara was that it did not have the power of the 95 1MZ-FE. I confirmed this when I raced my brother and the 95 pulled away about a car length "with 100k more miles on it". I am thinking there is something wrong with my Solara... here are some facts: I average about 16mpg "have seen 14mpg" mixed driving, it feels like the power drops off at high rpm "shifts into 2nd at aprox 5700rpm where the 95 shifted around 6200" and off the line torque feels less. Anyone have any suggestion on what can be wrong, if anything?? Thanks
-Derek

PS: took it to the dealership to have a 60 dollar "consumption test" run where they found nothing out of the ordinary.

DO some research and compare the curb weights and the gear ratios(transmission gears and final drive) between the Solara and Camry.

Did you mean a $60 compression test?

Try changing the air filter.

Also how many miles are on your car, maybe its time for a tune up or new plugs
