well actually i talked to my dad, and the car had been in a previous fender bender so it had gotten resprayed. we bought it from a hertz dealership in 2001.

oh and for austinsolara...how bad was the damage? 1500 bucks is an insane amount. the bumper itself was only 240 for me. and what exactly is the 'reinforcement' and 'energy absorber' (i figure the bumper IS the engergy absorber).

The bumper cover is just a cover, its made of hardened plastic...the reinforcements are what protect you in accidents. Esssentially, i think your reinforcements and/or frame are still intact (ok i could be assuming)...but all you would need to do is refinsih and respray your bumper cover and 240 is a good price...try to talk to the body shop..tell em' you'll give cash and see how much discount they can give..you would be suprised!
