New 2004 Solara Arrival!

Postby DavPak » Thu Aug 07, 2003 11:02 am

i just watched a truck carrying 4 new solara's roll into my dealership. i haven't seen one up close, i'll keep you all posted!!

EDIT: ok, i went out, it was an SLE. kinda nice, it had nav. the interior is really nice. very plush leather, cool steering wheel. the color was that ice blue that the matrix comes in. sticker price was @29,900. the rear quater panels/body lines still remind me of a tiburon....ick! the other 3 were SE sport. the body kit on those looks really cool!

the bad part is, those cars weren't meant for us. they were on their way to the region (corporate headquartes). so i won't ge tto drive one just yet, but i'll keep you updated on that.

Let it be known, i've seen the '04 solara's and overall, i'm not impressed!

Most people on the site don't like the 2004 but I'm willing to bet the tables will turn in a few months.
There is something about a brand new product off the assembly line , at the same time the 1st gen Solaras will start older and less apealling since we know they are no longer being produced.
Also the 2004 offers a better drivetrain and in my opinion better interior.

Sorry but it's still fugly. When first gen Solara is discontinued, I would still love my first gen simply because I got it because of its uniqueness.

Sure the 2nd gen has better interior. I wouldn't say they offer a better drivetrain. Still front wheel drive as usual with a slightly bigger engine.

For those of us that prefer an Inline Four the Gen 1.5 = Gen 2 :). The back end is pretty ugly on the new Solaras. They should have stayed with the “fast-back” coupe body style. At least it’s not a box with wheels like the Scion .
Let's just pretend I didn't grow up, or you're going to be terribly disappointed.

I thought the Sequoia was meant to replace the landcruiser. It's certainly a similarly sized beast.

The Sequoia is similar in size to the Land Cruiser, but it's a really stripped down version, and doesn't have nearly the amount of features. It's price is considerably less as a result. It's not really meant to replace the LC, unless Toyota wants people to buy the Lexus version.

Every Dealer should have one Solara by the 15th of this month. I'll not get into the Ugly / Pretty / Whatever discussion. I've been involved with them for a while now, and they are very nice driving cars. Better than the Accord Coupe even though not as much power. Styling is totally up the each individual.

I've driven the accord coupe... 4 cyl still has some problems w/ low end torque... yes, it's DOHC too...

The V6 feels a little zippier than the 1MZ-FE... but not by much unless you really pound on the accelerator.
1GR-FE ftw!
