So yesterday I got pulled over for window tint @ San Francisco Airport. The cop said "Do you know why I pulled you over for?" and I said my tint. Then he saw a decal on my windshield and asked do you have modified parts on your car I said yes just intake and TRD exhaust. So he popped open my hood and sees the intake and told me your intake is not legal because you don't have a C.A.R.B sticker. The intake I have is Weapon R.

So my ticket says:
Correctable Violation: No

VC27156(B) modified engine air intake system emissions w/o CARB label as red.

So I went from a window tint to modified engine WTF...

Lastly on the back of the ticket is says:
State referee certification required - NO OFFICER SIGN-OFF

Vehicle must be removed from the roadway immediately and may not be driven until compliance.

What should I do guys? Any advice and comment that will help PLEASE reply.

Thanks

For one thing, this should be posted in the Gen2 section.

As far as the rest is concerned, you should've acted like you DON'T know why he pulled you over! You're just admitting guilt (and possibly nullified your chances of getting your violation correctable)!

Personally, even though my tint isn't horrendously dark (nor do I want it to be), I ALWAYS roll down my windows around cops.

But as far as your intake, try contacting Weapon R for a CARB certification. If not, take off the intake if it's not hard to do and put the stock one back on, then say that you got rid of it when you go to the referee's office.

thats the link to show you whats legal.

i remember my first and only ticket. i asked was it because i did an unsafe lane change.. stupid me. i got a ticket for that. but at least i didnt get a speeding ticket, which was the reason he pulled me over in the first place. lol

Planning to put the stock intake back in before going to state referee, then after I'm going to slap it back on. Also my buddy at AEM it going to get me a CARB sticker that will match my car for the next time I get pull over I'll have a CARB sticker.

Maybe, just maybe you have a defense (however weak) if you print the SW web page showing the intakes. As far as I can tell there is no "for off road use only" notification on the page, no indication that the part isn't CARB certified (although there's also nothing that says it is). I think I'd take the thing off before seeing the referee, show him/her a printout of the website and plead ignorance. Be certain every single hose on the stock system is properly connected. If you're lucky there won't be any fine but it's quite possible you'll be required to have the car smog checked every year instead of every other year.

Then, you might want to remove the tinting because you always 'knew' that was illegal and only draws undue police attention. If you get popped a second time with the modified intake I'm going to guess the fine will be pretty substantial, you could even have your car impounded.

One more thought...you might want to hunt up one or more California oriented ricer forums and see how the problem is dealt with. You can tell from listening a lot of those little Honda's, Acura's etc are running a modified intake. Maybe they're certified..maybe not.

Cheers

You should've just told him you had the TRD exhaust when he asked if the car was modded. All Gen 2s are screwed if they get pulled over in cali with an intake since none of the manufacturers have CARB #s...especially us V6 guys
