Rim offset

Rim offset

Postby solaracanada » Wed Jul 30, 2008 7:42 pm

So, I am pretty stupid when it comes to rims, but I like them so here is a question that some of you may think i am dumb to ask. Now I did some research before I posted so i hope for that at least I wouldnt get flamed. I now understand what rim offset is, but I do not know if 45 is acceptable for 19's on gen 2 solara. Is it? If so, what would be the way to calculate what is the acceptable rim offset for a certain rim size?

I got the specs for the rims I want to buy, 19inch, offset 45mm, correct bolt pattern (5*114.3).
Rubber size is the only thing im concerned about, i think i might end up getting new rubbers period. Do you guys think these rims would work, would it rub at all?

Please look at the stickies in the Gen2 Aftermarket forum.

One has the tire calculators and other info. The other is a collection of wheels SG members have used.

Will 19's work on a Gen2, hell yes. 20's work on Gen2s. Search the gallery, find the offsets and tire sizes used. All your answers are at your fingers.

im not asking about rim size, im just not sure if offset of 45 would work, i did the math that i could understand and my conclusion is that the offset MIGHT not work if i want to stay the same on the diameter of the tire. So maybe if someone with experience could just tell me instead of criticizing, that would be greatly appreciated.

The most common rubber size you'll find for 19 inch rimes is 235/35/19 series tires. Now if you don't mind having 1.5 inches between rubber and rim, and have your speedo off by 3.5% these tires will do fine. Any other tires.

Tires that will ensure speedometer accuracy would be 225/40/19 series tires or 235/40/19 series tires. BUT EACH one of those tires will set you back at least $230-$270 a tire.

You gotta pay to play!

^^ Dude, not criticizing. I ran +45mm Enkei RSVs with no problem. I've seen anything in the 38 - 45mm range being OK. This should cover most FWD rims.

Yes, but I ran tires that were pushing it for a 7.5" wide wheel. your concern points are clearance to strut housing. (Offset drives this) So long as circumference is close, then gap between top of tire to spring seat is OK. Clearance to fender is really good. You'd have to have a crazy offset for this to be a problem or a bagged drop.

What wheels are you looking at and are you lowered?
