White Pasty Buildup on Battery

White Pasty Buildup on Battery

I checked my battery and there was a lot of white pasty buildup on the top center of it (where the bolt is holding it down). Anybody know what this is? I have 32k and this is the stock battery. Is this stuff normal? I cleaned it off.

I am having the same problems, I'm pretty sure its battery acid. Ive been wanting a new battery for awhile, I dont know whether I should wait till this battery dies or not. That white pasty stuff is actaully battery acid along with the melted paint of that black bar that holds the battery down. If your sistaution is the same as mine, I think I know what your saying.
Just make sure you keep the battery terminals (wires) clean and if it starts to get worse then buy a new battery.

mix backing soda with water, pour it over the build up. it should eliminate the build up, follow with a tooth brush to scrub off access gunk.

repeat if neccessary

ps. depending on how old the battery is, change it. i change mine every 3 years, regardless on how many months is advertised.

They make a tool (don't know what its called or if its even got a name), its specifically designed to clean the battery terminals! I'd for 2 bucks at local shops (autozone, pepboys). If you go in and ask, they'll try and sell you a kit - its like wet towels, the tool and marking rings - the tool is like a steelwool for the terminals, the cloth is like a wetsipe, and the rings..are like RED FOR POSITIVE and you got the rest...I think the kit is for 4-6 bucks (not worth it). just buy the tool seperatly!

there's also a spray that you can use. just go to any auto parts store or even any walmart should have it. it's a battery acid cleaner and it also prevents acid from returning. it sprays yellow liquid, but turns red/pink if it touches acid.

Yes and no. Because the copper is easier to oxidize the acid will attack that instead, the water just makes the reaction possible. Its a hydrolysis reaction.

The problem is you didn't neutralize the acid so watch your hands on the penny. Use baking soda, its the best method
