All I can say is the dealership guys are almost always clueless. It is hogwash if you be believe that the red is much different from the green both are ethylene glycol with anticorrosion additives. Ethylene glycol based are suppose to be interchangeable. If the red were a different base then there could be mixing complications. Don't always believe the dealership guys, remember that they sell parts and service vehicles because that is where the money is not selling the cars!

I'd have to agree with davpak on this! Dealership labor costs are more than local shops, hence consumers pay more..thinking dealership is hicking up prices...but those tech's are pro's at what they do! Dealerships make their money from new car sales and to be more precise (THE OPTIONS ON NEW CARS IS WHERE THE MULLA IS). What you pay maynot be what they pay!

Nope: cus' the trd 16's with rubber were for 500 plus loose change. I'd rather have those than dish out more...For wheels, i'd go discount tire! God my celica and camry wheels from there (what used to be on my solara is now on my camry)

Doesn't matter what is the color of your coolant oil. If it is efficient - than I definetely use it.
i.e. my Toyota Dealer offers to choose between Castrol Blue or Original Toyota Red. Certainly, Red one is more expensive. But if smth happens with my car in a city where there are no toyota dealers at all and i have to change my coolant - how can i get the red one? Castrol is everywhere and has the same mix as the original coolant.
It is officially approved by Toyota Japan for all Toyotas. I don't really think it is somehow influence your warranty...

Please dont misunderstand me. I'm not saying the red coolant isnt possibly better, however as a engineer / chemistry background I can tell you that the people who work in the parts department arent aware of the differences. Toyota does not manufacture the coolant they likely purchase it from one of the big 2 manufacturers. I can speak from significant experience including an acquaintence who owns several dealerships that the car selling is not the big money maker typically, again it depends on make, etc. Just to confirm my comments I called one of the local toyota dealerships, who basically botched a warranty job on my solara, which I personally had to correct, and asked them can you mix the green and the red their answer was yes you can but the color will possibly turn brownish which does not look good, I rest my point!!!

I talked to a local dealership in Omaha, and they said that it doesn't matter.. I asked why I had green in my car, and they said that its the same.. one is more expensive, but both get the job done, and NO ur radiator won't rust or anything because of using green... THey flushed my radiator when I had my engine out, and they put green in, and they knew that I was going to run 7 pounds, and have a Huge exhaust w\ the supra injectors.. and they stil used green.. so take it for what its worth... if they screw my car up, then they will pay, so why would they risk it??? or maybe they didn't and green is just as good?

that brownish liquird that comes out is the insides of a rusted radiator! I've been flushing my solara and ES with red liquids only...and when out comes red as well...but when i used the Orange prestone (or prior to that when i used the green prestone on my celica)....brownish liquids came out! I flush my liquids every year...and red goes in and maroon comes out...If its brown..then i'd used the prestone flush kit to first get the rust out of my radiator! I think a lot depends on how you maintain your car and how you keep it running...If you flush it yearly, orange or red shouldn't really matter! but i've yet to use green on my newer cars!
