JIC Coilover Questions.

Is it just me or is the coilovers stiff like a mofo?

So i installed the Flt-a1 and it is quite stiff.

Its to a point where i feel like im not even on my seat.

Also there are gas sounds coming from the back struts.

So i live in the city, and i have bumps everywhere. I feel everything.

My first time dealing with coilovers, is this how it is?

Tein guys and Jic guys. How is your experience?

Also, whats your settings on the FLT's?

ya the jic's are one stiff coilovers not as soft as the teins but handling is very nice

if you think the FLT-A1's are bad, you should feel my setup. lol custom higher springrate w/matched shock valving FLT-A2RS's.

Also running a whiteline front anti-sway bar to add to the fun.

The lower the car is, the stiffer the spring must be to prevent accidental removal of the exhaust system.
Increase the lbs. per inch deflection rate also limits the total amount of travel, so the camber pattern is shorter.

The rule for spring rate (road race) used to be to get the car height where you need it for aero, downforce etc. then decrease the rate to where the car just touches the compression stops at the worst part of the course. If it never touches, the suspension isn't properly loading the wheels and using full suspension travel to prevent the chassis from being affected by road surface changes. Be very careful about moving the compression stops - when the suspension hits them, that spring rate goes to near infinity and the wheel has zero traction.
The only downsides to loose springs is excess camber change and bottoming. If it wallows, stiffen the shocks. Using heavy springs to control body roll isn't effective - play with your bars.

Welcome to the coilover world! Coilovers are meant to be stiff since it's designed or geared towards a more aggressive driving style. My Tein Flex on my WRX feels like the car has rigid suspension. The "sound" you're talking about is normal. All coilovers do this. Now if you hear cracking or pinging sound then you have a problem!

So far, its not too bad. I think it was more on setting the dampening the way i wanted.

Frigging handles very very nicely.

I wish i could get some coilovers.

man, I loved those JICs... they may have made me sterile though but yeah my mechanic said the gas sounds from the rear are normal as well, they did that on my car the whole time I owned them. Sorry theyre so harsh for your liking man!

^^ x2. I just recently installed the a2's not too long ago. I had them on the stiffest setting and had to adjust them a bit, New York roads are not forgiving when you hit dips, bumps, potholes, or roads cut out leaving the rough gravel underneath.

You just have to adjust them to your liking, eventually you'll get use to them. Great purchase, don't sell them, especially since you just got them.
