99 Solara SLE keyless entry info needed

Postby bobcruger » Wed Aug 28, 2002 9:19 am

Just purchased a 99 Solara SLE and as often happens, didn't get the keyless entry transmitter units. Many of these are available on ebay, and I have the programming instructions, but not sure which units I need. Could someone with a 99 SLE please tell me the FCC code number on the back of their remote. This number is unique to each model, but in no way identifies the code to your vehicle. This way I can get right one, as many different ones that look identical are available. Thanks in advance for your time........

Do you have the gray oval looking key fob with the two buttons? or do you have the black rectangular one with LOCK and UNLOCK printed on the buttons?

99 Solara SLE keyless entry info needed

Postby bobcruger » Wed Aug 28, 2002 1:03 pm

I don't have either style key fob. That is the problem. Since this is a SLE, it has the factory installed alarm/keyless entry, and I would assume any other 99 SLE would use the same remote. With the proper FCC code info, I could purchase one that can be programmed to my vehicle.........

i don't know what the code is, but i have a 99 SLE also and it has the rectangular black remote w/ unlock/lock on the front and a panic button on the bottom. I don't know if it's the 00 or 01 model that they started putting a trunk release on it (do they even have any w/ it??).

What is the FCC ID on yours. The remotes i described to you are the only available ones for the 99 Solara. One belongs with the standard factory and one is the RS3000 VIP system thats a dealer add on or a factory standard option. I'm probably assuming the keyfob you have is the one missay just posted.

Just how do you program them? I have two, but I'd like to get a third one.

There's also another remote if you have the RS3000 alarm.

Postby RayCarlo » Fri Aug 30, 2002 5:38 am

Hello,
I don't have an SLE, but i have a 99 SE V6 with the RS3000 alarm, but i also bought the car and didn't get a remote, so i bought one of ebay. The first one i bought didn't work, it's the one first pictured, but then i found another one with a different FCC ID# so i took a chance and bought it, well it worked, so if you also have the RS3000 alarm, then the one you should get is the one with the FCC ID# BAB237131-022 it has just 2 un marked buttons with a red led light at the top and a toyota emblem at the bottom. Also if you need instructions for programming your remotes for the RS3000 alarm, they will be at the bottom. You have to find the alarm ecu in order to program it, i found that mine was under the center console right under the center compartment and my glass breakage sensor was located on the driver's side to the left of the pedals in the leg compartment, but i read that they are sometimes located in different places.

RS3000 alarm instructions:

Hope this helps,

Good info! How far into the console is the RS3000 VIP ecu? My wiring diagrams show its about 6 to 8 inches inward. I have 2 extra key fobs i picked up a while back and never had a chance to get it reprogrammed. Is removing the floor console is necessary to access the ecu or just prying up the shifter bezel and reaching under?

BTW, there are two versions of the RS3000 VIP alarm. theres the 97-early 99 model (black remote) and later 99 model (gray remote). The remotes look the same but for the later 99 model, its gray like I have. 00 and up changed over to the RS32000 VIP.

Hello again,
I guess i have the later 99 model because i have the dark grey remote.

If your ecu is located in the same place as mine then you will have to remove the whole center console, by prying off the shifter bezel, remove the 2 screws on the left and right of the shifter towards the center area, you'll notice that the center is 2 pieces, the front (closest to the ashtray) and another bigger piece that the center compartment is attatched to, remove the bolt that holds the center compartment in place (accessed by pulling out the carpet thing on the bottom of the compartment) pull up on the front piece to detacch it from the rest of the console, slip off the console, and voila that's where the ecu is(a little black box with wires running to it). The ecu was bolted on the piece of metal that the center console attatched to with 2 bolts, the bolts have to be taken off in order to get to the the programming button because the metal piece is in the way.

I'm sure i didn't need to go so in depth as how to take the center console off, i'm sure you already knew how, but just wanted to make sure, anyways good luck.

Hey Raycarlo, thanks for the tips. Actually i've never removed the whole center console on this car. I've only had to access/remove the bezel to install the short shifter. But since the stupid dealerships out here wanna charge the flat $70 bucks just to do it, i decided I might as well do it myself. I'll email ya if I run into some loop holes!

Thanks,
Ryan

I know, same with the dealerships here, that's why i did it myself, only takes like 10 minutes to do the whole programming (mostly taking the console off, less than a minute to program) and they wanna charge that much. anyways just let me know if you have any problems. hopefully your ecu is in the same place, good luck

Thank You - Resolution

Postby bobcruger » Tue Sep 03, 2002 8:58 pm

Thanks to all whose input was quite helpful. The ultimate resolution was this. I ordered remote from e-bay (FCC GQ43VT14T) for $9.99 plus shipping. Local dealership wanted $130. for this but said they would program it for me. I followed programming instructions found on net, which involved tripping locks 5 times, open door , shut door, locks 5 more times, ect. Programming worked great and now I have brand new remote. Note, this is for SLE, which has factory installed alarm, and not necessary to touch anything inside console to program. If anyone needs programming instructions for this, leave message and I will post it all here.

Thanks again,
