California Tint question...

California Tint question...

Postby Jackass-Jeff » Wed Aug 20, 2003 12:51 am

Hi!

Please state your car's color, car's interior color, % of tint on each window, if you've ever been pulled over for front window tint and what kind (quantum, titanium, etc) of tint.

Thanks!!

I'm thinking of getting 20-30 Quantum all around on my Silver/Black 02... just want to know if reflection + black interior makes a difference w/ jackass cops.

When I had my 98 Camry I had limo all around (5%), got a fix it ticket I think about 3 times. I could have just removed the tint in the front on my first fix it ticket but I liked how it looked. The Camry was gray with a ligther gray interior.

On my Solara I first had limo all around, got a fix it ticket, then I decided to go with 20% on the front and keep the limo in the back, I dont know what the tint was called, it was a awhile back. But yeah, I havent gotten a fix it ticket since then. But I also roll around the majority of the time with my windows down, so maybe that helps too. My Solara is silver with charcoal/black interior.

I dont think the interior matters much if its light or dark if youre rolling around in limo tint like me, you'll be a good target for a fix it ticket :)

Hey Jeff,

Mine is Titanium Tint with 16% in the rear 3 windows and 32% in the front with TAN interior color, cops haven't hassled with me yet.

I sit next to a cop at stop lights sometimes with my windows rolled up but i leave my sunroof visor open so sunlight can get thru. Never had trouble so far. Most cops aren't that much of di**s around here.

I wouldn't recommend anything darker then 20% all around. With your interior it going to be dark.

I was about to get 28 Quantum all around, but the shop owner suggested 14% because it looks a lot better... and it does =D I'm, now, also his web designer... =D

I thought the legal limit was to tint the back 3 windows as much you want... and leave the fronts since youre not supposed to tint those

but im sure the back ones are as far as you want... ppl just do the fronts cuz it looks better

the cops just want to be able to see the driver i guess

Yup, the back windows can be tinted any grade, just aslong as the front have no tint, this is the law in Cali. But it doesnt look right with no tint in the front.

My friend had his accord for about 1 year w/ limo tint and the interior is black. Yet to get a ticket. So I may as well take the risk =x

You kids that live in LA County, you have more to worry about with front window tint than most other areas here in SoCal.

i just got a ticket yesterday for excessive amplification and illegal tint, heh. i even had my windows down and the bastard made me roll them up so he could test them. do the windows have their own fuse? i should rig a switch so i can't roll them up, heh. the worst part is it was a BIKE cop. i saw him riding up beside me and i was just sitting there thinking "am i really getting pulled over by a guy on a bike?"

Hahaha... the lock button... but I'm sure they'd be smart enough... =x

Last night, my friend insisted to going to an ATM that makes you park in a loading zone... it was about midnight, and we always do it... so it was like whatever... Then a cop rolls by... I was like... CRAP... then "ok, he's going"... then he pulls over and backs up... DOUBLE CRAP! But he just got out to get cash from the ATM too... thank god lol!!! I even rolled down my windows hahaha =x

The front tint limit is 70%, there is no limit in the back in Ca. I just read it last night in the new SCC, they have a list of what mods you can have on your car in every state.

I just moved from Georgia to Maryland and failed the MD inspection due to window tint. The restriction in MD is 35%. I had 35% tint installed too. The problem is our windows come with some tint from the factory and they are additive. I think I was tested at 42%. I had to get the tint removed and replaced with 25% which came out to 32% tested. Same restriction on the front, only top 6" strip can be tinted.

Of course I could've had the tint removed, got the inspection then had it tinted darker again. Then I would run the risk of getting the Fix-it ticket and having to go through it all over again. -JoeB

42% is legal if the limit is 35%. That percentage is the amount of light transmitted through the window, therefore the lower the darker.
