CRUNCH!!! ...DOH!!! FIXED!!!

CRUNCH!!! ...DOH!!! FIXED!!!

Postby crispone » Thu Dec 18, 2008 9:14 am

So, weather is CRAPPY here in Ohio, and I have EARLY morning meetings about an hour (usual time-to-distance) away at Honda R&D... and the previous nights winter advisory left icy conditions on local back roads, and even some bad patches on the main drag... so I HEDGE a little, and opt to LEAVE the SOLARA at HOME! (WHY risk the nice car... when my Toyota 4x4 beater truck is NOT NEARLY as critical if I have a little "fender bender" with it... SMART MOVE, right?

W=R=O=N=G=!!!!!

The morning trip STARTED out okay... with the little Toyota Truck doing it's thing on the slippery-slidey roads... and I DID make it DOWN to the meetings without incident...

...HOWEVER... on the way BACK to the office about mid-day... I call my WIFE (who, at FOURTY TWO contracted CHICKEN POX last week of all things!!! ...and was laying around "miserable" for several days...) and check in to see how she's feeling. Well, although she SEEMED to be getting better... her voice was weak and she just sounded a little WORSE to me... so I kept "prying" as to whether she was really alright or not... and then, the UNBELIEVABLE NEWS!!!

"...oh... and honey... there IS ONE little thing I should probably tell you...

...you know how the boys had a two-hour delay? ...and I had to get up and put them on the bus??? ...well... it was so cold out, I DROVE them up to the end of our drive in the Odd-Wussy van... and when I was backing up to the house again... the side mirror was iced over and I didn't see your CAR and I BACKED INTO IT!!!!"

DOH!!!

^^^ So... I've already been by my Allstate agent's office, my body shop guy, and arranged an adjuster visit. The body shop (TOP NOTCH) has given me an estimate JUST UNDER $1500 for the job, and I have $500 deductible, with $200 discount for "GOLD PLAN" and "NO PRIORS"... so I'm gonna get it right for about $300 out of pocket, FIRST Monday back from the Holiday appointment.

Amazingly, when my wife TOLD me on the phone, I DIDN'T SWEAR nor YELL!!! AMAZING!

All in all... it could have been MUCH worse, and nobody was hurt, not too expensive, still drivable... and my biggest headache will be PULLING the KILLER INSTALL job Boston Acoustic components (JUST INSTALLED THIS PAST WEEKEND!!! DOH!!! :( ) ...back OUT of the door for the "re-skin" and paint work.

NOTE: Damage on DOOR only... last couple shots for WINTER EFFECT!

Merry Christmas!

Ironic indeed.....at least it wasnt any worse...who knows...you might have taken it out on the roads, and ended up needing a whole new front end or something.

You can hope that it'll be a learning experience for her....so that she'll be sure to look ALL around her before, and while shes moving a car. Everytime it snows, I clear off my entire car....windows, hood, roof, mirrors, and trunk lid.

I guess that van doesnt have heated mirrors

Ouchie wowwa! I had the same feeling years ago when I had my F-150 Lariat 4x4 supercab. I used to bartend on the weekend and drove to work with my girlfriend. Well I get there and all the sudden she doesn't want to hang out at the bar and wants to borrow my brand new spankin' truck to go do somethin'. I hesitantly give her the keys (a 5'4", 100-lb Asian female driving a full-size truck for the first time does not instill confidence) and tell her if she even scratches it I'm mailing her back to the Filippines in 6 separate envelopes. She goes on her merry way and about a 10 minutes later, the live band at my bar makes an announcement between songs--"Attention Bob, you're girlfriend crashed your truck." The whole crowd laughs and then I'm laughing thinking it's a joke because we Clevelanders have that type of humor. A few seconds later I look to my right and my girlfriend is trying to hold back tears. I was thinking "Oh :bleep2: , time to go lick some stamps!" I asked her what happened and she said she took out a mailbox with my right side mirror because she didn't know an F-150 was that wide. So with the bar about 5 deep waiting on drinks I went to survey the truck damage. The mirror was collapsed but no damage just some hairline scratches in the clear coat and the turn signal inside was not damaged either. I then tell her to take me to the scene of the accident. When we get there an old man is surveying what used to be his all-wood handmade mailbox splattered all over the road. She hit it with enough force that it splintered into the next suburb almost (damn!). The old man was cool because he like the fact we came back and accepted her apology....he did not accept any financial restitution which was hella cool. Although I was mad I never yelled at her....I think when the situation involves somebody you're close to I think you feel more disbelief than anger.

The funny/good thing is that she's scared to drive the 'Lara now. (I think she still get's 'night terrors' from the above incident. :D ) Which is really funny considering it was her favorite car years before I even thought about buying one.

You must really love your wife.

Well, I'm glad everything is ok. Hopefully, the body shop can make it look just like brand new.

I wish you well.

Too bad you can't ride your bike. ha ha
It was 50 degrees here yesterday. A little chilly, but still ok to go for a quick ride.
