Saw a new 04 commerical on TV!

Postby Jai_Jai_Binks » Tue Sep 09, 2003 8:39 am

Saw it last night before our local 10 o clock news (local NBC station) and this mornign at commerical break for the today show...

I HATE the ad, I like how other car's are spotlighting the solara...but i think there should be a more creative way to market than the way they did (on a side note...i liked how when the new camry's came out how people were driving around the camry..and the camry driver felt like its always a traffic jam...know what ad i'm talking about...now that was fun and creative...On the celica's -looks fast ad's were great - ROLPH on the one with the dog! haha)...

I didn't see anythign in the commerical that made me want to laugh/cry to even comment anything NICE. Need better advertisements!

yeah i saw it too, the red solara.
the ad isnt even original, i think nissan had a similar ad for the maxima or altima where the street lights start flashing..
also in that ad the other junk cars get more exposure than the solara..
then we see the solara driving around what looks like a pothole ridden , water filled road!!!! YUCK!@!!

it has no continuity and the ad just stops and there is no music or nothing for about 3 to 4 seconds.. as if some one forgot to pull the plug off

i shud have been in advertising! :drinking:

I saw the ad several times last night during MNF.

It was ok, not that bad, but the background music was kinda bad though.

They have to make an ad like the Camry SE one... but cooler and with a younger guy... not some guy during his mid-life crisis

i dunno...i thought the commercials were dumb..i saw two different ones....and i thought they both sucked....someone mentione a rip off of nissan...and i dunno it made the car look ugly especially that red..color...sorry if anyone has one...no offense...i think they should have picked a color more people tend to buy....i rarely see red solaras the old generation...so...

LoL good point! But Ive noticed Toyota maketing their Matrix, Celica, and Corolla to the younger generations and the Camry and Solara to the older crowd. I really dont want to see to many kids with Solara's to be honest, I'd rather be one of the few.

As far as commercials, I havent seen it yet. In fact even with the old model gen and ge1.5 Ive only seen one commercial and that was a 2002 commercial that I saw at a movie theatre, it was a red Solara driving through what I think is Italy.

I use to think the 04 was nasty but everytime I see one on the road it makes me sooo jealous.

I never saw that one =(

I saw the Gen 1 commercial that had a street chase... then he's hitting all these cars... then when he sees the Solara, he slows down to admire it... then after he passes it, he guns it and starts crashing into all the cars again! Then the narrator adds "The Camry Solara... Yea... it's that nice!" lol

Am I the only one that hasn't seen the Gen 2 commercial? =(

I also saw it... I HATED it! I had to look twice and even question my friend I was watching it with, "Was that really a Solara?" It looks nothing like my `02. The back, front, side, inside-- I know some of you new Solaraguys have a new `04, but I am old school.

They need to get some creativity in the marketing department.....along with the local dealership. Is Toyota's marketing trying to match the age bracket or what?

Hey...can anyone confirm this? I'm pretty sure that the background music from the new '04 Solara commercial is the newly released Elvis Presley song " Rubberneckin' ".

Never mind, I just confirmed it myself:

"'Rubberneckin' is the 34 year old Elvis song originally released as a B-side for his hit song 'Don't Cry Daddy' and resurrected for a remix by Paul Oakenfold for Elvis' new compilation album '2nd To None'.

The advertising campaign jingle is built around the 'Stop, look and listen' hook from the song..."
