bov for your sc?

I think he means the SC is venting some of its gasses. I'm not sure though. I hope its that cause my SC does that after I floor it.

umm.. i'm not really sure.. at least I dont think so, since I would think A/C mold build-up takes a while to develop (ie past warranty stage)?... however Im not sure at all since it is a secondary maintenance issue.......

Postby Smitty » Mon Sep 08, 2003 6:13 am

My car has the same exaust smell when i floor it. I thought it was exaust gases coming through the braided exaust pipe. Just my 2 cents i dunno for sure. :drinking:

i've been getting that smell lately too... I think that it could be oil burn off from when you stomp on it. it seems to me that it only happens just before i'm getting ready to do an oil change or approx 3,000 miles after and oil change.

not me, it doesn't matter when i change the oil. i could've just changed the oil and i still would've gotten that same smell. I wish i could figure this out.

well that curiosity thing got ahold of me, so i tried it out myself...changed my oil and then tested it out...still smells. i'm still going to say it's oil burn off...only thing i can think of that makes sense.

my only advice...don't floor it that often ( i know, i know ) or buy an air freshener and stuff it in your vent

this might help...mookie posted this in 2001!!!

"I hate it I'm guessing it's a thing with everyone? When I use the air conditioning there's not smell. But once I turn it off and just run regular air there's this odor. It's not a bad bad odor, but it's still an odor. I found these at Owners@Toyota: "

Q: Why does my air conditioning smell?
A: During air conditioner operation, cold refrigerant is pumped through the evaporator core by an engine driven compressor. Then a fan blows passenger-compartment air through “fins” to cool the air. Besides chilling the air, these fins also act as an air filter, trapping bacteria, spores, and dirt. Airborne particles are normally washed out a drain hole with condensation, but if they remain on the evaporator, the bacteria may collect and cause the unpleasant odor. This situation is not isolated to Toyota; it is an industry-wide condition.

AND
--

Q: How can I minimize the air conditioning smell from occurring?
A: There are ways to minimize the odor. Whenever possible, use the outside air setting on your unit rather than the recirculated air setting. Try to avoid parking under trees; this will reduce the possibility of leaves entering the air intakes. Whenever feasible, drive on paved routes as dusty roads may accelerate the condition. We encourage you to contact your local Toyota dealership for a thorough evaluation of the condition you are experiencing.

--

Any other tips? I've heard people say spraying Lysol into the air intake (below the windshield wipers) helps.

I got that same exhaust smell too when I floor it. My car has a head gasket leak, been too lazy to replace it. Dunno if that causes the smell.

xxSolaraxx, thanks for the info. Once XERD comes out with the headers, i'll have the dealer check it out. I just had my car inspected and had a 60,000 mile hall-over and they didn't find anything wrong except for the brake pads, so i don't think the head gasket would be it. What mileage are you guys at?? Just curious
