After 10 years of life I had repainted my celica, i think she needed a freashed look to her paint....also because someone stole my spoiler and that left nasty marks on the body! Most of the car was resprayed, but parts where where the shop felt that sanding was required (esp. the holes to cover my spoiler screws) those were sanded to the bare metal, and then some gray primerdone all around and then the process of painting.
Coming back to teh topic: There is a difference between respray and painting in general. Respraying is just as the term indicates...respraying. Repainting entails removing all the scuff marks (blemishes) and smoothing out the body of the car to factory like (rempving dings, etc) and then repainting. Respray is what MAACO does and a lot of body shops quote cheaper prices cus' less labor for what they are doing. Repainting entails a LOT of labor and hence the reflected pricings. As far as the value of a car post-painting, it depends on where you take it, and how good/bad of the job they did. Painting my celica costed me close to 1600 (taking it to a friend's shop). I was impressed for the overall effect it had on the car, however, i did notice a tit bit of overspray on my rear bumper which had dripped and dried...thankfully it was facing down....I think it increased the value of my car....but like i said...it all depends on how good of a job they do to really say if the value went up or down. (that reminds me i had my rear bumper on my camry repainted..cus someone scuffed it at a grovery store...i had it repainted...came good. I think it make my car value go up if i were to resale...cus' no potential buyer wants to see scuff marks on a bumper cus' he/she might mistaken that for a bigger accident).
