Rain+Acceleration=hesitation?????

Rain+Acceleration=hesitation?????

Yeah im full of issues today!
I have a 2002 Solara 4cyl which rides beautifully, except on rare occassions when it rains. If I'm driving in heavy rain doing around 40-50mph and i accelerate, the car starts to vibrate up the center and doesn't really move. The vibration is very obvious nothing minor that can be brushed off. Since i bought the car it's happend about 5 times.
I've mentioned it to Toyota twice so far they can't address the situation because they can't recreate the situation. They offered to take the car for a few days during rain and test drive it which im considering. It came up that the problem may be with the transmission but if that were the case would it only happen when it rains?? I thought i can put the problem out here on the message boards hoping to find someone with a similiar problem and maybe a solution.
thanks
soon to be member.

What kind of tires do u have?
How's the tread on ur tires?
It might be just ur tires losing traction and the vibration is from the tires tryin to catch the road.

i've ha dthis same problem. when it rains, and i try to accelerate the engine sounds like it's bogged down or something. makes me wonder if the rain is getting sucked into the intake from underneath.

i have the stock intake though

Strange... I've never had that problem. The only weird accel. I've experienced is slipping from a stop. But that's my fault for stopping on the painted lines...

i also have the 4 cylinder and had the same problem while driving uphill on the freeway during heavy rain. I though it was just my car, but i guess not. i figured that water was getting in to the intake which i highly doubt or my tires were lossing traction, i dont know? all i heard was a weird humming sound coming from the engine.

It got the same problem not too long ago but it was the first time. I was driving in a heavy rain and my car started to vibrate while I went over 60 or 65. In my case, I don't believe it was caused by the tires losing traction because I just got new rims and tires not too long ago.

it can't be tires with me either...i think it has something to do with water getting into the engine compartment somehow

Sup all
I'm the culprit that started this one, finally a member now.
anyway....
like IUPUS says, it sounds like the engine is bogged down. I thought it might be the tires but if it were then the car would swerve and the tires would at least still peel out. This Vibration is related to water coming into some part of the engine or moving parts somehow.
A friend of mine mentioned that maybe water is getting into the computer but i'm starting to think that it could be that water is actually getting into the intake and maybe choking up the car. But I just don't know how the underbelly is setup as to allow water in. I should also mention it only happens when im doing around 40mph which i've found out is when the overdrive gear kicks in. I'm wondering if there is gear slippage when i hit the point when the overdrive kicks in.....but again if that were the case then it would happen when it's dry not just when it rains. anymore info would be great.
