Is it possible and value to change my original V6 auto transmission to the manual transmission by going to the toyota dealer? And how much is it? :)

Don't feel bad, I asked this question too (not in forum). I got same reply, it would be MUCH cheaper to just go buy another car... But, don't give up. Talk to the people at level10. I talked to a guy there asking for recommendations (told him car, hp and hp target). They have multiple solutions.

1) Torque converter upgrade = $498 (must send in original 24/48 hr turnaround)
2) Valve Body upgrade = $698
3) Competition transmission = $3264 (he says faster than manual)

They recommend at least #1 but #1 + #2 is a good combination. #3 is Nirvana with a price tag... -JoeB

I'm thinking of doing the Torque Converter and Valve Body upgrades. I'll do it this winter when I'm not driving it. I'm guessing that with the transmission, they improve the gearing for performance. -JoeB

Hey, if it is really faster than a manual, I might as well keep my SLE and forget about trading it in! :o

it's not worth it. You should just trade in your auto solara for a 5spd one. Some dealers will let you do a trade straight up trade, some....they will fuss about how rare 5spd solaras are..

not worth it....the complexity alone isn't worth it..unless you can do it yourself...i've seen conversions for supras and it takes lots of labor and money to do....

once I get the money for the whole rebuild kit, my good friend is currently attending Wyoming Tech... One of the best automotive schools in the united states.. and hes going to rebuild the tranny for me for free... So all I have to do is get the parts, and he will do the rest.. its awsome
