it blocks your air filter from radiant heat coming from the engine lowering the intake air temp a must have for short ram intake especially if your filter is close the block the injen intakes for the gen 1 dont come with a heat shield but for other cars they do dont know why that is why i bought this one http://www.clubrsx.com/cr/INJ-HS5000.ht ... gn=froogle
