My 04SE V6 Test Drive

My 04SE V6 Test Drive

Postby 700t » Tue Sep 23, 2003 5:49 pm

I walked into the dealership and a hot, gorgeous 20-23 year old saleschik asked me if she could help me.
I said I was here to see the new Solara. After a few minutes of talking she pulled up with a silver SE V6.
I got in looked at the dash and saw the car had only 4 kms on it.I took off by myself.
I loved the interior, the seat was extremely comfortable.
It drove very quiet and smooth.
The V6 has more grunt(torque) than 1mz and a lower exhaust sound at WOT.
I also noticed a quicker first to second gear shift and I really like the S-mode(manual up and down shift).
The only thing I didn't like was when you give a little bit of throttle the engine doesn't seem to do much, then you press the speed down more and it takes off. I think it is the fly by throttle. That's all.

the new 04's should get out of 1st quicker since they have another gear for automatic.

all in all... seems like more and more people are favoring the solara.

So...

Did you ask the hot saleschick out, buy the car, or both?

Had a day off from work, so I stopped by my dealer to test drive two new Solaras: SLE V6 w/autostick & Nav, SE I4 5-speed manual. I experienced the same "hesistation" symptoms on the autotragic, even though the car is very smooth. The SE has a stiffer suspension that I felt, 5-speed manual is good, but still wish there would be a 5-speed manual V6 available.

No hot chick for me. :(

Hey Luc... getting my SLE soon.

What did you think about the Navigation setup?

I didn't get to play with the Nav much, but it is a very nice headunit, with TWO slots, one for Nav (obviously) and one for CD/DVD, when the screen pivots downward. According to the salesperson, it IS capable of playing a DVD movie, as long as the car is stopped and parking brake is engaged. Of course, I didn't try it, but perhaps when he calls me to test drive a SE V6 instead, I'll try it out then. The real-time tracking was pretty fast & accurate.

OOOh, sounds intresting! I am FINALLY picking up my car tomorrow(on Friday). It should finally be a done deal... I will find out in the next couple of hours.

Something tells me the sales guy was "blowing smoke" I think that would be a major selling point if you could watch movies in the car when in park... who knows, but I think that would be posted on the website or in one of the brochures about the solara. That would be a REALLY FANTASTIC FEATURE if true.

I'm almost afraid to test it out when I get my car, As most likely I will be dissapointed.

Obviously, the dealer is lacking information. The Solara head unit is not capable of playing DVD movies.

Trust me :D

I didn't think it was, but he seemed confident (didn't hesitate) that it would play DVD movies. Oh well, next time I stop by, I'll check it out.

Didn't I just say that this navigation unit can not play movie DVDs  The DVD slot is designed for the map disc only.

By law, you can NOT watch a movie up front while driving with any indash screen, whether OEM or aftermarket. There are ways to bypass it, but at my store, we hook it up accordingly, so if there were any "accidents" that results from it, we aren't liable. Of course, if the customer bypass it him/herself or through a friend, we will not service nor be held liable for any problems after that.
