Dots on the glass????

Can someone please tell me what the dots on the perimeter of all the windows are for???
They border the windows and in some cases keeps the tint from sticking. What the heck are the dots for? They are especially grouped around the rear veiw mirror? why? I can't find any info on it, my guess is that its just decor?

Its called the dot matrix. I tint and still don't know the exact purpose of it. But there are ways to get the tint to stick. Sorry can't give you more info.

yes solara02 is right about it being dot matrix, also I think they are for the defrosters. They dont allow the tint to adhere perfectly, but over time the little bubbles will disapear with the heat or when smoothed with a squeegee. So there is really now real way to get around them when tinting. - BLake

lol, what a newbie post. First, trying searching for your answers. Secondly I think the dot matrix is for slight tint, like a shading.

A good tint shop will use a heat lamp to make sure they dry on the matrix (like mine =D )

another option I've seen is the shop putting a sheet of vinyl to cover it... so you lose a chunk of visibility

Actually, at least on my 02 and my old camry, the antenna was on the rear windshield. Dunno what the dots on the front windshield are for.

Dot-what?

Postby Guest » Thu Sep 25, 2003 9:59 pm

It's to keep the sun from blinding you as you look in your rearview mirror. That's all.

No. A pillar is inside. Its intergrated into the glass. Car and driver or automobile magazine just did an article on how the intergrated antennas dont get good reception but they do look a lot better
