Lower Temp Thermostats

Im going to be flushing out my cooling system soon and I have thought about dropping the coolant temp down to about 170F. Ive been doing a little research to find that if you go down too low your heater will not be as warm in the winter and your car runs a bit richer (meaning you eat more fuel). I think a 160F thermostat is going to be too low. What do you guys think, should I run a 170F thermostat? I haven't really been able to find any substantial benefits. What benefits would it bring?

Unless you are running lots of boost or have a HP NA engine stay stock temp.

What Midas said, Chris. Keep it stock unless you're going to be running boost or were in a very warm climate area

Just for reference for other people who may run a search. This one of my biggest difficulties when running searches. People ask a question an they typically get an answer on what they should do but don't get a detailed description why. Can someone just put up why its better to stay with the OEM thermostat when you are not blown or highly modified.
